I had my first attempt a laying some paint at the weekend. Overall it went quite well, apart from 2 things:
1. School boy error, I didn't have enough paint to complete the job. A few tiger stripes/mottling where it needs a bit more paint coverage to sort. It's likely to be a few more days...
Are you saying that LVLP is no good for metallics and clear? I'm yet to spray anything, but picked up an LVLP with interchangeable nozzles and planned to use it for all stages. Do I need to rethink?
A friend of mine did some wrinkle finish painting. He's a perfectionist, so did lots of trials before committing to the final paint. He found that the wrinkle finish varied depending on the amount of paint applied and the temperature.
My 'project' is a 40 year old Chevy, so understandably a lot of my research for restoring it has come from the US. On top of this, it appears that lot of the 'instructional' videos you find on the web are US based too.
A lot of the advice I've seen suggests using a long block when preparing...
I'm at a crossroads and looking for opinions.
I've got 2 sets of lower a-arms for my project. The first is the set originally on the car. They will require full strip down and cleanup, after which I'd epoxy then top coat with 2K.
The second is a set that I picked up in a box of spares...
You mean under the foil seal?
I guess I won't know now until I have to break the seal. I guess I will either find a hidden cap, or will have to use the foil/cling film trick whilst I source some empty tins to use.
I've started buying materials ready for my first attempt at spraying.
I was somewhat surprised to find that the tin of hardener can't be resealed after opening. It appears to have a foil seal and no cap to put on it after opening.
I've wondered about making some sort of makeshift seal (which...
I've not sprayed anything yet, but am starting to gather supplies. I've made the decision to go with PPS, but I'm not sure about the pot sizes.
I'm only doing one car, but I'm going to be spraying various bits - small part (suspension), medium (odd panels) through to (eventually) a fully body...
My take on it is that the charcoal/organic will filter out the iso's, but cannot be guaranteed 100%, as you can't tell when they've reached their limit, and won't protect any leakage around the mask seals.
Air fed avoids filter saturation and the positive pressure prevents mask leaks.
If...
First time sprayer, and I will be painting panel by panel sometime soon.
Any guides on being able to work out how much paint I need to mix up for a given panel size? The last thing I want is to find I've not mixed up enough, or end up with loads wasted.
TIA.
I've got a 150mm DA sander with a velcro backing pad and at some point will get some long boards for sanding. I don't know yet whether the boards will be velcro or need adhesive papers.
What brands of sand paper would you recommend for each of these?
I'm progressing slowly through my restoration project, cutting out and replacing rust. Up to now all the panels have been ones that won't be visible, and I've been hand painting Jotun 87.
For the outer panels I've got Lechlar epoxy, which will be sprayed.
The next panel is the tail panel...
If you're looking at getting a pro to do it, shop around. I asked 3 places for a quote to PC a center stand for my motorbike. Prices came back as £25, £45 and £140.
