My Model A roadster "Old Rusty" started life as a Pattison groundsman's tractor. The one above is based on Model A parts, judging by the axle and frame, mine was based on Model B (1932) Ford parts.

Hello! I've been doing a lot of welding on my 100E lately. I decided to buy a new helmet and went for one from Screwfix. It was an Impax IM-AWH-800D I liked it but it started playing up after a few days. They replaced it and the new one did the same. It was £49.99. I got a refund. I read this...
90 or 91 eh? Makes sense. I'm repairing a 100E (have been putting videos up on YouTube) and it has not been on the road since 1982, so the repairs predate the intro of the continuous welding mandate. It's amazing how shoddy some of the work was. I imagine some of the patches pre dated mig...
Bumping an old thread because I have a question.
When did the MOT rules change to say patches ought to be continuously welded? Are we talking 20 or 30 years ago? I can't remember.
Thanks in advance for any response.
I'll answer my own post.. I rang the paint manufacturer (or distributor) and they said I need a different product. ProXL Proweld. I've ordered a tin to try. Lets see how I get on with that. Bottom line is the normal zinc etch primer is not weldable.
I bought some weld through primer off of ebay. If I try and strike an arc through it it does not strike. Have I misunderstood what weld thru means? Should I be able to plug weld through it, for instance? How about spot welding? If I am supposed to be able to strike an arc through it, it has been...
Yeah I did charge the battery. The clincher for me was when I selected 150nm and it wouldn't turn the 21mm socket I was holding in my hand. I hope yours is better. I have a makita 1/4 hex drive impact gun which is great. I thought the one from Lidl would be handy for heavier stuff.
Thanks for all the feedback. I won't get another. I'll carry on like I always have. If it says 400nm I want 400nm, not struggling with 130nm. Thanks again. Mart.
Hello. I wonder if anyone has the currently available 1/2" drive Battery cordless impact gun from Lidl. I bought one yesterday but took it back today. It was useless. I am curious if they are all like that or I got a bad one. It's 69.99 if you are wondering. Thanks in advance for any response. I...
Hello! Long time lurker Mart here.
I recently stumbled across a Swinden's vice at my local scrappies.
I show it in the as found condition in this video: (starts art the vice segment, but you're welc9ome to skip back to the start)
And I did an update video showing the vice here:
Anyway I...
Very nice job. One of my first "keep myself busy" jobs when I took early retirement was a couple of handy sized anvils from railway line. I did the bulk of the work in the 6x4 saw and after blunting my end mills I rigged up a flycutter with indexable inserts that worked really well. I made some...
I bought the sprayer and 6x1l bottle off ebay. Good value I thought. I screwed the bottle up by putting cellulose thinners in it. It never quite worked the same again. I just ordered another bottle and 6x1l combo and will make sure to only use the brake cleaner in it. If the bottle is ok next...
Well not today but recently I picked up a workmate that had been left out for scrap at the side of the road. A bit of tinkering and I got it back into serviceable condition for next to nothing.

A small compressor. Picked up off the side of the road, left out for scrap. It took a little fettling, but I got it working well. It will feature in a video out on Friday. Look for Mart's Garage on youtube.

fwiw I redid my shed rood with steel roofing sheets. I put roofing battens across the old felt roof and screwed the sheeting to the battens. It works great. It cost probably twice as much as new felt but will last a lot longer. the air gap between the sheets and the old roof act as an insulator...
