So I've started cutting out the rot from my Ford Galaxy today.
The first repair is the box section outrigger / jacking point.
Before i plate over I need to treat the surface rust on the areas that are not being replaced.
What would you lot recommend?
I was thinking some sort of rust...
So I've started to look at repairing a rusted sill on the wife's Berlingo.
I've cut away all the rust and I'm back to fresh metal. (Sorry, due to miserable weather!)
The problem I have is the rust extended down the sill and on to the floor, which means I need to fabricate a plate for the...
Thanks all!
I think I'll make up some wooden blocks, backed up by axle stand and a couple of jacks.
The car has sufficient ground clearance for me to crawl under when not jacked up as well, so it should be sufficiently safe.
Hi All!
I love this group and seeing everyone's projects!
Just about to start a little bit of welding on the wife's Citroën Berlingo, however I'm struggling to get it high enough to get comfortable underneath.
I've got sturdy axle stands, however they're still not high enough.
I was...
I'm about to start welding an inner sill / floor pan and it requires some overhead welding.
I'm not keen on running a bead, is it ok to stitch?
I've used the same technique on over areas I've patched already to avoid panel distortion.
Yeah, I'm trying to keep the heat out as it's only 1mm, so stitching rather than running.
When I come to weld the panels on the car I'll be using stitched butt welds.
It' been a long time since I've welded, so go easy on me!
1mm mild steel, 0.8 wire, SIP Ideal 180 mig with Argoshield light.

What do you think?

So I finally finished getting my old SIP 180A up and running!
I've fitted new liner, motor brushes and regreased the feed motor gearbox.
My first project is some patches on my MK2 Ford Galaxy.
I tried laying down some welds on some scrap, but only to check it works, nothing descent.
I'm...
Hi,
Firstly, great forum! I have been reading for a while now and it is so informative on here!
I was given a SIP Ideal 180 (red cased version, same as one in this photo) a while back and have been servicing and cleaning it up ready to re-teach myself to mig weld again.
I have greased the feed...
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I've joined so I can learn to weld better with my SIP Ideal 180.
My first project is repairing some rust on an old Citroën Relay (Ducato / Boxer) van.
The van has large amounts of rust around the sills due to poor sill designs acting like massive mud traps!
I just...
Hi Kevm,
I know this is an old thread but I too have an old square top Ideal 180 with eratic feed. I fitted a new liner which sorted the sticking, but now the feed motor is intermittent. It's been stood for a while so I'm guessing it could be brushes, I've cleaned the control with switch cleaner...
Hi,
I'm new here so please go easy on me!
I've been given an old SIP Ideal 180 MIG to help me weld up some holes in my Citroën Relay van.
I've MIG welded 20+ years ago, looked awful back then, hoping to learn how do it properly. Im i no rush to repair my van, it's a long term wife avoidance...
