I think I've mentioned earlier in the thread but this is my first attempt at a restoration ( if you can call it that ) on this scale so, any tips, help pointers are more than welcome
There is multiple skins in the corners, most just glued together for the most part and spot welded here and there!
I've patched what is solid, and just made up the rest to box things in, provide a little strength and fill the gaps!
The triangular patch in the first image was originally only...
So back to what I looked at this morning.....
This is the section I struggled with in the beginning
The step is level with the chassis rails as the floor rests on it
Just check the outer panel sits in the right place....its a concerningly rough fit though
I'm guessing this is going to...
Sooo started this again....lol
Probably done a fair bit since I last took pics etc but were at a point where I'm sick of been on my back!!!
So the floor has come out! Along with the rear, valance thingy ( where the barn doors shut)
Started making a panel for the rear corner and it didn't...
Turned out a pretty good fit
Some of the welds look a bit snotty, really hard to get good access in the corners though
The under sides will be ground flat and another peice lapping the chassis and repair section Welded in. They where like that originally but only had 3 spot welds...
Got a little time to a bit today....
Finished off the rear leaf spring support
Only to realise I had measured the wrong end....so this will be perfect for passe ger side but not the side I'm doing......
Oh well....
I chucked it one side and set about making another....
I decided on welding...
Had similar problems with a Gardner 6cylinder, circa 13 litres diesel....on a boat.....
Original wiring was 1.5mm ish, battery +ve, about 5 metres up to wheel House, on a cheap Chinese 20amp push button and back to exciter....
Rather than dig out all the wiring, bringing cabin ceilings down or...
Is one of the prompts to abort the test because of leaking gases or damaged exhaust or something similar??
Otherwise you put the probe in and follow onscreen instructions
Look at your fail sheet..... if emissions not noted 99% he didn't test it....
Most garages now are on the newer VOSA systems where the machines are linked to computer that tester is logged Into...
So brake efforts emissions etc etc are all auto recorded directly from the machines and not...
So this is my welding trolley I made some time ago.....
Probably a thread on here somewhere actually....
And I'm looking at the £100s of equipment getting constant battering of grinding dust and other crap.....
This may aswell be outside because the garage isn't particularly weather proof...it...
It did have them originally, they need chopping down a little to go back in.......
T bars and tubing sound like a good idea!
I'll probably 2 old deep sockets kicking about that would be idea for that
Ideally it wants a good going over with a grinder just to square everything up and make it...
Clamps are some bolts / thread a peice of angle with a slot in and some big nuts as washers
To adjust the thickness I have these off cuts with a bolt in to save me lining up the top every time I unclamp it
Gave everything a quick once over removing sharp edges ground the front of the...
So after yesterday unproductive day. I've spent another day doing naff all.....
Started by chopped the ends off the bender
Turning my air pressure down a tad went from this with a lot of dross everywhere
To this with hardly any dross
I will have to get some practice in and learn to tidy up...
The next one, I thought I'd try and improve may accuracy a little, and remember to deduct the material thickness when marking out!!
Sharpie and a scriber to get a better line
Although my "cutting table" needs some work as it's not the most comfortable thing to use!!
Soaked some oil into...
Not having a great morning but managed a little bit more....
I've pulled the box into finished size with a big pair of clamps and Welded in the reinforcers
Welds have a weird look to them but I'd say they where hot enough!!
Started adding flanges by tacking one end
And moving the clamp...
I used the 90 and didn't need any thinners....I ran a suction around 50-60psi and it flew out!
If your trying to make it lie level and flat yes maybe some thinners and play with pressures....
All of mine will be underneath so I'm not bothered on finish along as good coverage
