Sometimes I will weld some less than perfectly clean material on non critical items just to get the job done but that is just ridiculous. :doh::rolleyes: At least run a wire wheel or brush over it before trying to weld it.
Yeah last time I did a comparison of boc and air products vs various rent free suppliers its generally 2 to 3 bottles a year before paying rental makes sense.
As far as I know both offers are still available but the current prices are of course rather higher than they used to be. The BOC deal is now called the small welder deal I believe.

Ok as per the suggestions given I've extracted a sample from the bottom of the welder. It looks much paler than I expected and doesnt look like a water oil emulsion to me. Opinions please.

Just picked up this oxford bantam 180. Decided to take the lid off to check the oil. I'm thinking that it looks ok and the internals also look fine and therefore there's no need to change it. However, I'm not really sure what transformer oil should look like so I'd appreciate other...
I imagine that domestic electrical loads are expected to increase substantially in the future due to all the planned decarbonisation. Much increased use of electric cars and heat pumps etc. So I suppose its sensible futureproofing.
I've got a 330a oxford and it pulls about 41 amps iirc at full load. Not that I've ever actually wound it up that high. Need to upgrade the workshop power supply first.
