I fit Bridgestone BT090's (about the only option on 400 grey imports with a 150/60/18 rear!) using tyre levers and a cheap bead breaker all the time and they aren't too bad...... Does help that before fitting, I put the tyres in my set of tyre warmers left over from my racing days though:D
I used the Screwfix no nonsense stuff all the time on Ali motorcycle parts and as long as you rinse them in water & dry afterwards, I've never had a problem. If you leave the parts soaking for a few days then they will develop a grey coating. I found this out as I forgot about an Ali sprocket...
Not that I've ever come across but most of my sales are mail order so I try to persuade customers to pay by bank transfer, if not then I use Square or as a very last resort PayPal (some people like it......) so I don't take a huge number of payments
Hi Martin,
I live in Gravesend and would be happy to have a quick look at the car for you & your daughter. If the work does need doing, I probably won't have the time though. Just send me a message
My new little furry ninjas, George (on the grass) & Mildred have had their 2nd set of injections at 13 weeks old so they are now able to venture out (under supervision of course )
I used to use Gunk or Jizer in my parts washer but swapped to the Screwfix no nonsense stuff and it is every bit as good as the others with the added advantage of not smelling as bad. I was sceptical at first but it works really well on all my motorbike parts even removing solidified chain lube...
I've got one of the small Clarke blast cabinets that I'm fed up of tripping over for £45 if you fancy a trip to Kent (Gravesend). I'm pretty sure it's this model https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/heavy-duty-blast-cabinet/
Have you looked at the Honda CB-1 (NC27) basically a detuned CBR400 (NC23) engine in a steel frame. They seem to get overlooked and are still reasonable prices. I've had a couple and did my 1st ever trackday on one. I now race (well follow along behind everyone else) a NC23. Currently building...
I remember coming down a slip road from the A45, and when I applied the brakes, the flip front decided to fly up and lock itself in position as I approached the junction. No matter what I tried, I could never adjust the bonnet so that it would line up properly and stay locked shut
One of the guys I used to race with made his own shims on a ZXR400 using the shanks of old 7.5mm drills.
Personally I just get them from uk-powerparts on Ebay Just under £4 each if you order 2 or more although I've got quite a collection now...
I would say a lathe and I use mine for all sorts of spacers and making special fixings etc on my motorbikes. Realistically if you're looking at a home or small milling machine, you are going to struggle with the accuracy required for rebores and head skimming. Even though I now have a decent...
I was held up on Sunday on the A1M by a broken down Series II & trailer right where they had decided to narrow the motorway from 4 lanes down to 1. I did kind of expect it though....
Make sure you put some form of noggin under the flying joints - The T&G joint is not particularly strong and you will get flexing & creaks from there. I spent 1/2 my working life at a previous company visiting building sites to investigate problems with timber floors and 9 times out of 10, this...
My Cat managed to do exactly the same and the sight of her running round the house with a giant carrier bag shaped parachute was hilarious for all the all the wrong reasons. Eventually managed to get it off her but even now the sound of rustling plastic has her running for cover
I watched it and found it fascinating. He came across as a proper old school scoundrel and I'm not sure his intentions where totally selfless but he certainly saved a lot of lives. Felt really sorry for his Danish girlfriend and the way she was treated after the war.
