my caddy has decided to start playing up last week when I tried to arc up it took some doing to get it to fire up kept spluttering the wire into a mess of unburnt metal (like a spikey ball) eventually arcing up I put it down to an earthing problem, but yesterday I went to use it an it seemed...
Cheers Fizzy plenty of information for me to make a informative decision. Think I'll invest after new year turned couple jobs away recently as I'm not mobile in that sense. I think I would be best going for biggest I can afford as I'll be running near max a lot of the time, not so much...
Hi reader I've got a Esab caddy 160i just wondering what size generator I should go for? Want to be as portable as possible. Think I read 10 kW but that seems a bit over the top. any brand that you would advise? Cheers
Well it's been nearly a week since I did it, I've got about 70% movement & grip back but not much feeling in it, still really tendor just had the day off was back at it on Monday just a little jumpy around the torch ha ha
First nurse had a look checked to see if it was pussing, water came out which was good apparently, then checked my nerve by poking end of finger with a pin I could feel it at the very tip which was good. Got a doctor to come an check it cause it a weird accident an wanted to check everything was...
Cheers guys got to say I went to a local walk in centre an am not joking I was in an out within 10 minutes an no spiel about if I was working safely like I usually get when I go in with the dreaded chunk of metal in my eye (I'm pretty good at getting them out myself but sometimes there tough...
Just got back from the quacks I only went an put red hot mig wire through my finger hit the bone an went right back up to the tip. It really is sore this one it's twice as big as normal massive swelling I can't bend it throb throb throb, I'm on anti biotics now an pain killers and the day off...
Yeah I do use skip/back stepping method but I was wondering when you quench do you do it per run or say do left middle right? I say quench but I'd use squirty bottle an blow dry with compressed air. And do you take your time when welding stainless? I.e let the weld cool then weld a bit let it...
Yeah 304L thanks for input got plenty to mull over now will let you know how i get on with it being able to quench is good as there could be a number of them. if you was doing a long run on stainless say 300mm long Butt weld 2mm sheet would you weld a bit quench weld a bit quench to stop to much...
I think I'll try an shim it 1mm an put a little tension on it so it doesn't pull to much on the bolts an i'll call it a day on it. Would it be ok to quench so it speeds up my production?
both sides are shown to be welded with the pipe running right through the flange small weld prep on flange an ground flush. I like the idea of using a circle piece under flange but would it not pull more near the bolts? How would you go about dishing them would that involve heating them an using...
This is what I'm using I thought it was 38mm tube but it's 50mm. I can't get to grips with how your shimming, do you mean 1 piece of welding wire across diameter pulling it at 2 points? I'll draw what I'm talking about easier
Okay another quick one- What about using same material 38mm x 1.5mm tube on to a 4mm flange you cant pre-set the flange can you? I've had a few goes an can get it ok with clamping it down an letting it cool but i'm still getting a little distortion can it be done bang on and if so how?
Yeh i was using 1mm filler on it and i didnt hang arould during welding but did pause to let it cool inbetween every 2nd weld so it had an even amount of weld on each side. 1st 2nd pause 3rd 4th pause 5th 6th 7th 8th done
I think using a packer is the only way I tried a few different methods and as soon as you release the clamps it springs back. I found welding it like this had the best effect
The fit up was bang on. I'll try a 4mm packer next time and the drawing isnt to scale just showing exaggerated how its distorting an what i thought could be a soution, you dont seem to get any play once its welded to pull it out, has a tiny bit of play an then it crumples so it needs to finish...
