If you are getting good welds then all is well.
Your right blowing holes is usually due to having the ampage too high, I was meaning the little holes you get in the weld its self if no gas is present.
Cheers
After buying a mig welder recently, I remarked to a work mate that I was tired of welding on the floor of my garage.
Next day at work a delivery of right angle metal turns up.
He then pulls out a slab of 5mm sheet metal
Next thing I know I have a work bench ready to take home!:D
How...
Holes in the weld is usually no gas, is your bottle empty mate?
Like Joe says, have a listen to the end of the gun when you pull the trigger for the tell tale hiss.
A mate at work has one of these
and it seems to work well, bear in mind I have not used any of the more expensive ones so don't have anything to compare it to.
My first thought was a worn torch liner.
The few migs I've worked on all had quite simple faults but like anything ,think of a price if would be happy to take a chance on it and don't bid over it.
Good luck.
Hi Rick,
Just a thought also make sure the surface you are welding is clean, no paint or dirt.
I see you live in Fife, somewhere like Cromwell in Glenrothes will probably be able to sell you a replacement glass.Should be cheaper than a whole new helmet.
Good luck.
Thanks Malcolm, I've had a few beers tonight and while surfing through e-bay forund a "SNAP ON 160 PRO MIG WELDER" for £150 so I've just bought it. Hope I dont regret it tomorrow :D
Was going to be spending quite a bit more so I'll take a chance.
We will see how it goes
