As per title really, I want to get a quality tru colour lid as i'm about to start doing a lot more welding. Initially mainly heavy steel Mig but will be starting ally and stainless later this year both mig and tig when I get my tig bench set up.
Cost is secondary to vision clarity (within...
This is a subject pretty close to my heart. I remember when I was younger being told “ always buy decent shoes and a decent mattress because when you’re not in one, your in the other”.
I’ve got pretty wide feet and have found properly fitting and supportive footwear has a massive impact on...
I thought it was the dodgy suspension lift that invited criticism/deserved rollicking?
Never fails to surprise me how many people think they can “improve” a vehicles handling with, in the case of a land rover, a 200quid lift kit when actually you need to alter geometry, caster correction arms...
Are there any special considerations to take into account when welding mild steel box to ISO container corners other than standard cleaning and profile prep?
If anyone is thinking of ordering a machine built by Tec Arc, through a welding supply company, beware of their build times if it is a non stock machine.
I was quoted 18- 21 working days at point of order so around a month. I ordered my Machine on the 5th of April but it’s still not ready and...
I had issues running mine initially on a 32A MCB however I switched it out for a 40A Type D breaker as per Tecarcs instructions. The type D breakers allow a much greater inrush current than standard household type B MCB's (I think its around double their rating) to allow for the arc start up...
As above really, there is a depot relatively close to me but I've never heard of them before so wondered if anyone had any experience of dealing with them. I've not had to have a bottle on contract until now.
Thanks for the reply Richard. I think I’ll be fine with a 3m torch anyway as I’ve gone for a swf machine but will bear in mind 4 is doable. I will sort a set up out as you describe when I’m ready to have a play.
Once again, Many thanks:thumbup:
Ive been looking at options for welding ally and initally looked at a push pull gun but wondered if for occasional use and in relatively close proximity to the welder I would get away with just having a shorter dedicated alloy torch set up at either 2 or 3 meters long?
Brilliant, Thanks for the replies guys. Will check out the oxford unit as I'm just starting to investigate gouging which I'm guessing would be usefull for unpicking existing welds.
I need a plasma cutter and have been looking at hypotherm units but looking at the opticut it looks to offer greater cutting capability and is a bit cheaper than a 45xp. It looks chunkier but as the unit will be workshop based portability isn’t really a concern. Tec arc are local to me which...
Thanks for all the replies. Hugh, I do have a Newarc RT2000 for tig and stick duties which I have never really played with yet. I have been advised by others to stay away from all in one machines and that dedicated mig and tig machines are a better option. You obviously think otherwise, could...
Thanks for the replies folks. I don’t think I need 400 amps but out of curiosity, what sort of plate thickness are you welding with that Oxford? Looks a sturdy set! Another benefit of the non inverter machines I’ve just thought of is that at circa 100kg no one is going to carry off over the...
Thanks for the replies guys. I want to buy something that has local support so I can either get on the blower or take it back if there is an issue due to either my incompetence or a problem with the machine. If pulse is worth paying extra for then I'll up my budget to accommodate ( looks like...
Hi
A recent injury has meant a change in priorities and with a few months to spare I've decided its time to get back in the garage and do something fun!
I'm about to start building an overland truck and will need a beefier welder.
I have a migatronic rallye166 which I got new for my 19th...
