We bought a wheelchair for my wife, sadly she died before sitting in it. We gave it away on Freegle, the ungrateful so and so who took it, couldn't even say thank you. People huh?
I'd be very surprised if there's no one in Bulgaria doing lock stitch repairs to cast iron, it's been in use since the 1930's when it was being used on cast iron components in the Texas oil fields. Frequently done in situ as well.
I have one, either Lidl's or Aldi's, got to be 10 years old, maybe older. Still working 24 hours a day during the autumn/winter months. A useful indicator as to when the fuel is running low and I put a clothes airer in front of it overnight if I've done a wash that I couldn't dry outside. I've...
Welcome onboard. I changed career at 40, I'd been hobby blacksmithing, went to college for 12 months to iron out all my self taught mistakes and learn how to weld properly. Went full time until I retired, do a bit still, helps keep me distracted since my wife died.
Quite a few years ago when Fiat Coupes were current, the guy who'd been our Best Man had the five cylinder 20 valve version. He put in for a service at the local Fiat dealer, some monkey there took it out for a 'spin', lost it on a roundabout and totalled it. To say my mate was not best pleased...
What about a braided rope handle? There's all sorts of options, there's sure to be something on YouTube to provide a bit of inspiration. My late wife used to make a six strand plait to make handles for horse tack boxes but she used waxed sash cord. The ends of the handles were passed through...
Motivation; used to have shed loads of it but age and a significant bereavement has hidden it away.
Sporadically I seem to find it, then it slips away.
National security?
We have intelligence services entirely relaxed about foreign governments bribing (sorry donating to) our elected representatives.
Still, no different to between the wars when we were paying Mussolini a salary and were happy to ignore the activities of fascists at home and...
I don't know about the rest of us but there are contingencies in place to underpin financial services. My daughter was Global Incidence Manager for Unisys at the time of 9/11. I'm not sure what the time line was, people were intensively busy but over a relatively short period.
I have an AEG that's got to be about 30 years old, (my son was still in school when we bought it and he's just gone 48) had a new PCB but nothing else, used when family were at home and my wife was alive, about three or four times a week, now, just the once a week for a full load.
Sad to say AEG...
We had some big cypress taken down some years ago; the tree surgeons raised the issue, checked, and on finding no evidence of nests were happy to proceed.
As long as you take all necessary precautions welding galvanised components should be ok but not doing so can be fatal.
In 2005, a very well known American blacksmith Jim 'Paw-Paw' Wilson died as a result of complications arising from burning off galvanising prior to welding (the condition is...
Make a dolly (these RHS were I think 100mm x 40mm) designed so that the legs of the table rest fore and aft over the RHS bearers, bolt the bearers to 18mm ply. That's your dolly. If the feet of the table have locating holes, bolt/coach screw the table to the dolly, otherwise strap the table to...
Sadly, it's getting increasingly difficult to pay tradespeople by any method other than bank transfer.
Had a guy in to take out six cypress stumps and roots, I thought he'd appreciate cash? No, he did take it but made it quite clear, there was no advantage to him accepting cash. At no point did...
I use an electric kettle for washing up water and 40 mins off peak (dedicated Immersion heater timer) for showers. In winter I keep a large kettle on the solid fuel stove, if it's not boiling I can use the water in the electric kettle and it soon will be.
A few houses near me faced with a similar dilemma, although shorter and narrower verges than yours, have planted English Lavender. It appears to be quite hardy, overwintering OK.
Smells nice and the insects seem to like it.
India has women only train carriages too - for the same reason.
I think some lines may even run women only trains?
In a slight deviation, the Namo Bharat train service which will shortly run from Shaheedabad to Duhai in Uttar Pradesh will be crewed by an all female workforce.
You'll really struggle to get the needle scaler to work efficiently across many of the elements in the gate. The inner surfaces of the scroll work and those parts where you can't use the gun at, or around 90 degrees will frustrate you. It's slow work too and very noisy. I accept your budget is...
