Gents, if someone could please clarify the following for me I would be grateful, as I seem to be getting through gas quite quickly ……
NEW gas bottle; starting pressure approx 2000 psi. I set my flow meter to give 10 L min.
As the pressure in the bottle falls; ….. how often would you...
Ichris; all the materials were from Brindley's in Sheffield. The materials for the 3 railings & the 2 posts were aprox £140. Pretty good value I thought.
Delivery would have been expensive though ….. so as I was also buying all the materials for my gates as well (in total £400 !) I went...
Wow …. many thanks for the comments people. :ashamed:
Cumbriasteve; thanks for the 'pointers'. I will definitely take your point re: doing 3 off 120' runs, foreword to my gates project which will be using 16mm bar as the verticals. I'll practice until I get it good enough.
Re: design &...
After a few hours of practice and tuition taken from this forum, I embarked on my 1st MIG project over the past 2 weeks ……..… Wall Railings.
I will put a few more photo's in the Projects folder.
It all went OK, as I was able to orient nearly all the welds to my preferred welding position...
Thanks for all the excellent advice ……. I have now started a weld bead pad, but I am also too impatient to get on and make stuff ! i.e. A bench grinder stand. (I have already made a vice stand)
I think that I have made a better job of welding the pipe to the 10mm plate today than my previous...
A bit boring perhaps …… but just recently, my 10" angle grinder (never had one before !) fitted with a high quality 1.9mm cutting disc used to cut up to 10mm steel plate. Am amazed at the efficiency and straight line cut i've been able to achieve.
Thanks guys, to answer Mrfuzzy, I am using Siftrode rods ……
yep, think I will get some 4mm straight plate & practice 'straight run' joints of 4mm to 10mm, before I try the curvature of the pipe.
Another question though …….. I am right handed and so 'drag' left to right & it feels correct...
Hi, I bought an R-Tech MIG 4 weeks ago & now that I have a space to work, + a bench, and a 16A socket, I thought i'd start with the MMA welding.
Watched the tutorials on this forum, which were great. Then practiced for a few hours using 3mm to 10mm steel, using 2.5, 3.2 & 4 rods, all 6013...
Apologise for being lazy, I did a bit of a search on the forum & couldn't find anything specific.
Today I threw away my 3 year old Clas Olsen bench grinder as it was rubbish ! (was only 250W) I managed to stall the wheel whenever I needed to do anything more than sharpen a drill.
So...
Hey, many thanks for all your comments ….. whilst there's some contradiction in them; still very interesting and its always good to hear different opinions. (I will be bolting the 12mm plates through the trestle timbers & also bolting the legs to the floor …. so it will be really solid &...
I have two 10mm top plates (each 6' x 16" ) that need cleaning up to provide an acceptable level of finish for a bench top.
I sort of recall recall seeing a reply in a thread on here somewhere, where the person used some additive (not wd40) but possibly something similar ? to keep the top from...
Am Impressed by the way the top plate has cleaned up ….. I have some 10mm top plates that also need cleaning up & I recall there was a post on here somewhere where the person used some additive (not wd40) but possibly something similar to keep the top from rusting again. Can anyone advise...
Hi, I was looking for adjustable feet / mountings for a welding table and came across this company that do industrial castors
http://www.rosscastors.co.uk
Kent, thanks for the reply ……. Yep, my preference is to go for the fixed bench approach, so I would probably just shim to get it level (my bench is going to be on an a concrete slab that I'm putting down, so the slab won't be 'spot on' level !).
Gents, I am about to embark on a making a bench as my 1st welding project ….. (I thought making gates would be my 1st project BUT now I realise a bench must be !) I'm planning to use 50x50 box section & have managed to get some 10mm plate (6ft x 18" - 2 sheets) from my local metal scrap...
