I found previously (on cheap spools) the spool would grip the post / spindle and stick on it, I had to use some silicone lube spray to help with NO tensioner nut on them at all. At one point laying the spool out along the workshop floor, Just the drag...

I have two machines,
1) A very old Clarke weld 85EN Gasless, (At least 25 - 30 yrs old), With a brand new liner fitter recently.
2) A new Wolf Weld Mig 140. Gas / Gasless

Usually different spools, but on this occassion they are both from the same manufacturer / supplier.
I wonder if a Small / light Spring put on the post FIRST then the spool and then the retaining nut or bolt,
That way it keeps it on the end of the pole.

At the moment there is No tensioning nut / bolt on it as it is well too tight, The spool is just sat on the post, Even greased up the spool slides onto the pole and grips it.
