Couple of bolts and an extra piece of wood screwed on top to stop the bumper moving about, falling off. I did the same years ago when I made one up out of a kart racing trolley.
Just made up this eyesore out of various bits. Needed something I can wheel my bumper about on. Wheel it to centre of garage and spray epoxy then wheel it back to rear of garage after so I can park my rear windowless car inside my garage as well.
A good response to my upol tables would have been. Well done for taking the time to research but you can get away with fast in this country. The slower stuff is better for very hot climates. If that’s what it’s even aimed at. What would I know?
No. A more appropriate response to my “good call on using fast thinners”would have been
“Just use fast for everything, follow data sheets but if you can’t get the right viscosity then differ from them slightly in order to do so like you have just done. Glad the second panel has gone right now...
I always seem to end up falling out with Norsa on this forum. I followed the advice I remembered from the past. Most of the advice I have received has helped no end. Although there are some contradictions in certain parts of the advice I have been given. I followed the last piece of advice he...
I’ve taken your advice. I thinned the se
What you on about? You fly off the handle. I took your advice?? I should have done a cup test with the fast and I’d have seen that it was too slow and added more thinner. I tried cup test with the medium and it shot through the cup faster than it was...
I noticed that the part of the panel where filler cracked before was springy. I’d press on it and it would pop back out. Just the one area. I kept tapping around the edges of it until it stopped springing. When I was happy that the panel didn’t have any excess flexing than normal, I broke the...
This was what I faced. Extent of damage covered up with filler. I panel beat it. Got the whole lot within 1/4 inch or less of where it should be then used varying amounts of filler across it accordingly.
Reface. So there’s better ones out there then. It’s ok but doesn’t go through the gun that great, even with 2.2mm. Finish is very uneven, especially once it starts to harden in the gun. I ended up putting on lots of coats so I could sand it back smooth. I just really liked the idea of spray...
Ok. Thanks. Unfortunately I’ve done all the panels bar one. Can’t undo that lot now. Should hold up ok. One thing I’ve never seen on any repairs over the years is rust creeping through. Should be fine. One thing I have had is cracked body stopper. I applied normal filler then coat after coat of...
My epoxy says 8-14 hours at 23c. It’s very rarely 23c in my garage. Was hanging around in the mid 20s sometimes. I gave it maybe 17 hours, sometimes 24 hours before guide coat and flatting. I’ll bet I didn’t leave it long enough before flatting. I’m now seeing how it would carry on shrinking...
I asked for guides to speeding up shrinkage of epoxy so I can see it earlier. I’ve followed how lots of guys do this. I’m not saying I know better. Don’t get like that. You’ve given me lots of good advice. I appreciate it. All I’m saying is I’ve seen body shops who say not to do it that way round.
When I stripped the paint on this panel from repairs before we had the car they had used a mass of spray filler over the body filler. Unfortunately they hadn’t pulled the dents at all. They stacked on filler maybe 3/4 to 1 inch thick in places. It cracked on the boot. I got the panel back to 1/4...
It’s all down to personal preference. Some do, some don’t. There are instances where filler has been applied over epoxy and it has broken away. If you have a bare panel or if you have patches of filler it’s either way going to be sealed from corrosion by the paint over it.
What I might be inclined to do is, paint this bumper in full and make sure I get my filler as good as I can before the epoxy, then if shrinkage occurs, I’ll remove the clear with 0000 grade steel wool, sandpaper etc then flat the base/primer. Re base and re clear.
Im thinking this, as...
I think I caught all the shrinkage on all panels as I was going around. Had it two or three times where I’ve noticed something isn’t right weeks/months after the initial work.
Touch wood I don’t see it shrink with the final paint on. I have a dilemma. I have the rear bumper to do. I was going to...
I would have done the filler over a day or two when I had time. I remember the edges of the filler being feathered out with no harsh high spots of metal anywhere. No obvious lines. Just a fine haze of filler where it meets metal edges. One or two high spots in the middle of the accident damage...
