Thanks, yes it’s supposed to be chunky for the look, as it’s so long it’s 50x50 min. I might go up to 60x60 and drop down a wall thickness then.
Yes it’s all tied together at the top as well as there’s a frame underneath to support the masonry too as it’s not self-supporting over that width.
My...
I have been reading the forum looking for the threads that discuss the deflection allowable for square hollow section.
I am making a table, I have a piece of masonry worktop from a kitchen island 1800x1200x30mm, which weighs a whopping 180kgs-ish and want to use it as a table top for a garden...
Thanks guys I’ll do a sample and cut it
Is pre-heat worth it and likely to make any difference? What kind of temp would I need to get the workpiece to to make any kind of difference?
that said we've already got the 130 x 12 stock in so be good to use it if I can.
Will preheating with a torch or gas ring underneath for a while make any difference at all or is it a waste of time? I guess the first pass would heat it up more than that anyway
Yeah it's 100 x 100 x 8.0 and the plate is 130 x 12 going on the bottom for a footplate to bolt down and on the top drilled to connect to another piece above.
This is only 4 corners the rest is in 80 x 80 x 6mm box section and 6mm plate which is more within the scope of the mig welder hopefully...
I just remember seeing an ad on our local facebook for a local company doing bottles with deposit and no ongoing rent, meant to switch to them once my argoshield bottle was empty, maybe they can sort me out a co2 and I can switch between
I'll see if anyone at work has Co2 bottle I can borrow as I don't have one to hand..
I think it will take up to 1.2mm wire, I can get a small spool and have a crack at that with some bevelling on another piece of scrap and then cut it in half to see how bad the penetration is
Ta,
If I were to buy an MMA setup is it a pretty easy transition? What setup and rods would be suitable?
I could just pay someone to do it is the other option, but if I can get set up to do it myself it may help for future - investment isn't a problem but timescale means I haven't got weeks to...
What sized MMA setup would I need? To be honest I've never used stick, so it'd add another step learning as well, if I can do it with mig for the time being it would be more straightforward.
Hi all
I have been self teaching with welding for about 5 years now. Most of the stuff I do is 1.5mm - 4mm box and plate. I build theatre sets mainly.
Got a first job with some proper thickness - need to put some 12mm plates onto the end of 100x100x 8mm box section post. It ends up as an...
Thanks, I've ordered Evo355 from FFX just now.
I've got a Rage4 at the moment, 185mm with a knackered blade. Thinking of replacing the blade with the 180mm Ali blade and using that just for ali.
We cut bigger steel (up to 100x100) but ali is exclusively 48mm pole.
Sorry, second question is, does anybody bother using any kind of coolant with the Evolution blades? I know it says you don't need to but does it improve blade life at all?
Hi
Does anyone know please if there is any difference (except the colour and the supplied blade) between the 355mm EVOSAW355 (the "Steel Series" blue one) and the Rage2 355?
Both 2200W, both 1450RPM, both 355mm blades with 25.4mm bore.. Can I buy the Fury2 and put a 355 steel blade on it...
I've got a 135TE and I've got a small bottle (think it's a PD sized) fit right onto the welder where the disposable goes. You have to change the jubilee slip for a bigger one and cut the circular cutout a bit bigger but fits fine
The bottle costs about £20 a year rental plus £20 a refill from...
You can say that again, sounds neat but gets through the bolts
The bolts on these nuts will only be loosened & tightened rather than removed so hopefully cross threading etc won't be too bad. I think filing it down & reducing thread might be a bad idea as mentioned though
I'll see what the gap...
cheers mate yeah i will pick up some self coloured nuts rather than using the coated ones off the shelf as I've got about 40 to do and going to hammerite it afterwards anyway
