I've always been more comfortable with wood at home and although I excelled at metalwork over woodwork at school, metal cutting and bending were always skills i thought I could never replicate without a proper smithyesque workshop! At least I can do basic cutting, drilling, grinding and some...
Yeah, you're right, it's always going to be a bespoke option. I'll just search and look to see how they've been done though and get some ideas. Still got to make a router table yet......agrrrr......I'm suffering from not-enough-hours-in-the-day-syndrome
Am starting to research large bottles now. So even if I move on with my welder (very likely), then it's still a worthwhile investment. Anyway, the disposable bottle carrier at the rear of my Powercraft "Special" is useless. It has a single strap to hold it and can easily slip away from the unit.
Yeah, and I should have looked at the site's calculator before embarking on 5mm with a 135A max MIG welder. But that's good, I'm quickly learning

This is a great thread for me as I've finally opened the box to my Aldi Powercraft 30-135 (looks exactly the same inc accessories) after 5 years of purchasing!!!!
My first project a few days ago was with 5mm angle iron and I could only get it to work with fluxcore gasless and nothing as good as...
Thanks brokenbiker, are there any good plans on these boards to follow for a welding table?
Am already thinking about upgrading my headgear to an auto. Much to research now. Like the look and sound of a Portamig 215
Hi Burdekin, was this the type of Portamig you bought? They look great. Got an Aldi "Special" myself. Feeder's a bit amateurish, but it seems to do the job (gasless) although I need to practice with gas more (can't get a decent bead yet) but now I enjoy welding might be looking to upgrade.
Thanks Steve, I think I've overlapped you in the response. As from my previous post I think you're right. I just need to practice. I'm going to get some scrap of varying thickness, get a better bottle system and give it a go. Just need to choose a bottle system that will work with other welders...
Thanks for that brokenbiker. I should have been clearer. The MIG was set up for gas with a 0.6 tip. Once I changed polarity, changed the tip to 0.9, changed the roller and spool, the gasless process was much better for me.
You're right about the gas though - pathetic little bottle. And I'm...
Hello welding people! What a great forum. Wish I'd checked here before buying my Aldi Powercraft MIG thingy in 2009 (Looks exactly like this Wolf Weld sold at Amazon and came with exactly the same accessories, but I paid £200 ish). To plasma cut a long story short, I impulse purchased this thing...
