HI Markus, I may take a pedal (Fronius) - the cheapest of the two perhaps. PM a price please.
As for the home made, Circuit board, the SW / micro may not be too much of a problem, I have coded in C one time at work and I play with Arduinos and TI Launchpad sometimes. If you could give...

here's my try with the same set up as you Paul...
ugh...not pretty. I wonder if travel speed and amount of filler is an issue? I'll have a go at going faster but the thought of going faster....oooer... "
The top edge looks ok, the bottom edge looks cold. !!!!!
Part of the reason for...
Steel is about the easiest (and cheapest) material to weld on. Get some about 2.5-3mm thick and do some basics on that using 1.6mm filler. 1mm can be handy on thin stuff. Your Red Thoriated are good for that. Current at https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/tig-calculator.htm

You maintain the compression ratio with a thicker head gasket designed for post skim usage. ( thicker than std by the skim qty )
What brand of Si Br was that?
Plus the thickness of the rod?
Ive had a go with some cheap stuff off the bay the job looked like it had been raked from a fire
My neighbour is always into some project or other and has a haibike (fat bike) and loves it. He rates Bafang and is going to convert a Halfords donor MTB with the 1kW Bafang. He got a 56V I think - clearly more juice than standard - I read that they do an 8inch self powered wheel - be good if...
Reading through its clear there are so many design ideas its difficult to go ahead with one.
To help get more info out there - will you be alone or will you be being pushed by an able bodied chum?? - as you mention 'wheel chair', but also - "I've omitted the drive" ... I took this as it...
with CAN each of the two data lines (with no data traffic) sit at mid rail and the rail is 5V - so each data line N and P is +2.5V above a common return.
with 485 one line goes 0V to +5V and the other goes from 0V to -5V. In the jpg I was only looking at one of the two data lines.
That...
I had a play the other eve with the data socket on the MW.
The main confirm was the data is not CAN.
It is essentiall full duplex RS232 type data - so is full duplex with RX and Tx pairs its RS-485 infact.
I measured the baud rate at 56kb/s it decodes with 8 bits - no parity, I could not...
The protocol is not known to me.
The physical interface is RS-485 ( separate Tx and Rx pairs )
I may see about borrowing a pedal and recording the data traffic. I may be able to borrow a decent scope with some protocol decoders on e.g. Modbus, CAN etc.
Im sure an Arduino with a coule of...
I could at home in my shop, but during my 'test' it was expected I would be at the same ability as their regular guy, he did it without chill bars.
I had trouble feeding the 1mm wire as it bent and flexed about I couldnt keep it in the root of the open corner. Plus my feeding action is...
I got the impression the guy was giving me something more difficult, so he wasnt going to lose his overtime. His boss hadnt told him they were lining me up in the wings. Before he twigged it was like yes thats really good mate, then it was like Yes you need more practise.
