Having a break as baby now born....think it will need re-doing but such is life  not the smoothest...
I'll watch to see others more informed replies
I know some MOT stations will not accept plug welds on structural panels and yet on most of these vehicles when originally built would have been spot welded...puzzles me..unless it was just my welding they were referring too :p
thanks for replies again
not been doing much this week as had family visiting...and hence my bus still has no coating bar the taurpaulin... heyho family now gone so should get some more done
I did get an DA sander recently, not the dearest one unfortunately and started with the coarsest...
:insert red face: maybe I have doh@me lol
I was going to ask how folks grind...as a serious question...sounds daft but I was
do folks keep the grinding wheel flat to the heads of the weld
or
use grinder at an angle holding basically the tip just against the welds
or
work from a side...
Definately your going in the right direction
Good luck with the MOT test...personally I find them worse than going to the dentist :o I'd be tempted to put some seam sealer on the welds and then cover with protective coating, hammerite or such like? just a suggestion...others may come...
Eek! My fingers are tightly crossed  :D
Thanks for replies, just think other peoples welds do look more continual and neater and the example of welding thin metal on this site definately looks structurally more solid and less of the 'pellet' affect...the pin holes I will...
Hi Traininghall
I've tried frosts 'weld-thru' but didn't find it that great altho it's price would suggest it is
and just recently I got 'HB body Zinc' spot, mig welding primer CFC Free, half the price of frosts one...and so far I'm pleased with it...I'm thinking of going to do a test...
Basically I was only going to treat some areas that needed a bit of tlc before they got worse...famous last words eh
Well I then bare metalled half my bus  and found a multitude of sins
I might be keeping the bare metal look although this is my question
I have just tried butt...
Hopefully no one will ever take action but I'm sure it's a worry, maybe there has to be some legal blurb, sad that it's needed tho :(
I know ones who run a weekend away for tinkering with their VW's usual service etc covered...and this point was brought up as a concern, altho they are all...
Thanks Malcolm, I thought I had to use weld thro hence I have been, but might not next time...I didn't find the anti-splatter much use but then re-read it and it's only supposed to help taking of splatters afterwards easier
Really pooped now, had a hell of a day, nightmare with...
Can anyone say how they prep their metal?
I grind until my arm gives up
Do yous use Weld thro primer and anti-splatter?
What have yous found that seems to always work?
Any suggestions welcome
Still finding times when it runs smoother than other times and yes it drives me mad :( keep trying different settings and things got alot of splatter and pushing back this time and weld not as thick as I'd like...seems like when I try and do a nice thick weld the metal just wants to dissapear...
Voice of doom and gloom here, but yes there are definately times when they test the perseverance ...but they are worth it in the end :)
I'll try and get some pics of mine posted, been busy welding again...with so/so success as my bay had failed MOT also my bus's engine on last legs so...
I bet you have got fed up, no fun when they don't play ball..good luck with the new engine, you probably already know this but these new engines need to be broken in gently, from what I've read & heard problems can come if some think see how much they can get out of it & they floor it, I seem to...
Oh Malcolm, thats such a generous offer, I will try and take you up on that at some point, Thanks
Rob, it sounds brill, bet your relieved to find some answers to your problems that you were experiencing...be honest everytime I try 1-2 I usually just get little droplets that definately...
