Hi,
I've picked up a new project T25 (I'll get me welder out). The previous owner went to the expense of getting two new panels welding on and then applying red led type paint to them on the outside, this now has surface rust.
I want to over paint them for now just to stop the surface rust...
Excellent news, so I will be able to turn my Discovery Orange at some point on a budget. But more importantly do all the little niggly bits of spraying I need to do..... Off to Machine Mart for a compressor I guess.
Do you chaps think one of these will be ok...
Hi,
I've just been quoted £200 for spraying my rock sliders on my Landr Rover, so I wondered if it was possible to buy a compressor and spray gun to allow me to spray single panels or parts one at a time.
I guess what I'm saying is, it is possible to buy a £100-150 compressor and bits to alow...
Quick question, what do you have in that tank for getting the rust off the parts, now I have finished the welding on my Disco, well for a week anyway, I want to start on the MG.
Hi,
I need to do the sills soon on my Disco 1. What I'm having a few issues with is how should I protect the inside of the sills when I have welded them on?
What I did with my inner wing reinforcement was to weld through primer coat them, paint them and then drill hold though and weld...
I did change the liner on the Mig at the weekend to a steel one.
Got a tip, if you pull off the knob on the wire feed dial and undo the nut the whole speed control unit comes off and you can get to the two nuts and retaining washer with no problems at all.
Hi,
I replaced the liner on a 151TE with a teflon one at the weekend and the weld wire would not make it to the end of the torch, it actually went through the liner and out the size of the cable cover....
Would this be because there's a kink in the cables inside?
Hi,
I have a hobby weld bottle onto a dual guage regulator, the torch is leaking gas at the blue connector in the picture.
When I got the welder the regulator was faulty and I'm wondering if its blown the pipe out, the gas only leaks from here when I pull the trigger. The gas is not going...
Ok, now I have a new regulator and I'm getting gas to the torch I now have managed to balance form to much as 10 bar and about right 5 bar from the regulator, well it seems better at 5.
Next thing the wire feed, it seems I need a little tension on the spool to stop it from cros nesting up and...
Ok update, got some more of the work done this weekend, I also got a new regulator and managed to do some welding yesterday as well which was a result.
To ensure when seam welding I had as small a gap between panels as possible I clamped the new and old panels together and used a hacksaw to...
Well I'll be getting a new one this weekend from the local welding shop, I need to get my Land Rover back together again sharpish, I now have an MGB which will need some work.
Right had another go today and gas is definately coming out of the wrong place on the regulator so its not getting to the weld gun. Even with the welder not connected it still coming out of the wrong place.
Grr, will have to send it back, which will be a laugh I'm sure.
I'll dig out the soap bottle and have another go tomorrow..... I think if I can sort the gas out then I'll have a go for real on a butt weld and spot welds before having a bash on the Landy.
Hi,
It's a sealey one, model below it came with the supermig, I think I may need to put some PTFE on the threads unless something is loose. I'm using a hobbyweld 5 gas bottle...
Hi,
I'm having gas issues at the regulator I think I need some PTFE tape on it to stop it leaking.
This is going to be a daft question, I assume the gas should not leak anywhere?
Hi,
Quick question, the little plastic tube for the gas, shoud this have clips on each end?
Also, I assume I take the pressure off the wire when I'm not using it?
Chris
Hi,
Well I did do a lesson at college 30 years ago.
Anyway, I got a piece of metal I cut of my broken landrover and setup my new mig Sealy Supermig 150, I set it to 30amps and wire speed 2.5.
The terrible welds on this picture are due to the gas being off, for a min I thought I was mad...
