Hi All
I have a couple of car panels to replace and it would be easier to spot weld however, having read a few threads here on the subject I'm starting to have doubts;
Are spot welders any good or more trouble than worth?
It looks like HSS are the only people who hire them out round here...
Hi All
Can anyone tell me the difference between a fire blanket and a welding blanket?
Apart from the cost - a fire blanket appears to be significantly cheaper!!!
Some plank welded a patch over the wing bolts and now I can't remove the wing :clapping: need to grind out the patch but...
Hi Matt
My missus complains about the flickering lights and the neighbours have commented.
It affects everything in our house, even the television.
I put it down to being an old house with old wiring.

Hi All
Bit late reading this post but I have to comment;
I have a dremel and it is invaluable for small spaces. All the different cutting heads, grinding discs, wire brushes, etc.
When lay horizontal in the footwell with goggles on, the steering wheel above your head, I do not want to be...
We considered a Fiat 500 after a week holiday in Italy - Have you seen the price of them in the UK these days
Moved on to considering something else now.
Good luck with your project - should be worth some money when it's finished :D

Rob
Yes, been there - done that.
When I first started I doubted my ability rather than the equipment. Got there in the end.
The MIG was out again at the weekend!!! Always something with an old car!!!

Hi All
I used some 15mm copper pipe, the type normally used for central heating, and squashed it flat in the vice.
Using round tube allows the insertion of a handle. Trust me it can get seriously hot!

Rob
I'm impressed.
This thread gives inspiration that things may not be as bad as first thought and everything is fixable with a little effort.
Many thanks
Rob
Hi Rickoty
In terms of beyond economical repair, it depends upon the complete picture. In my opinion, if a rust heap costs £500 to put through an MOT for a year, it's cheap motoring really. When you consider the depreciation on a new car at the garage, pick a number and add some noughts.
My...
Thanks for that, never heard of it / them.
Im trying the bondarustprimer from Bondaglass Voss, appears to have a good write up elsewhere. I've jst got to replace 10 nyloc nuts and hopefully it's coming off its axle stands tonight / tomorrow.
Winter projects always take a little longer than...
I had to pick the missus up from Castle Ashby at 5pm yesterday. When I left home it was a bright sunny day although dark clouds in the distance looked like we were up for rain. On the A45 it started raining and 3miles down the road where I pulled off it was like a tornado was running through...
Hi All
Further progress... I tried the waxoyl today. The pump action thingy with the extension probe worked really well, I was genuinely surprised. Whether it was due to resting the can in boiling water refreshed every 30 minutes, 3 times, on a scorching hot day? but it really was liquid and...
Hi Any
I gess the first question would be... what thickness material are you playing with?
When you say cracks... can you take the piece off the car again to examine it?
Initially, sounds like a lack of penetration to me.
What are you welding and any pictures?
Regards
Rob
Congratulations on your achievement
First bit of welding - I'll bet it won't be the last!!!
My last post elsewhere claimed I'd finished welding for a while however, the MIG was out again within 2 weeks for a small patch at the front although on the upside - practice makes perfect.
Rob
Diff's back in tonight along with new handbrake cables so progressing well.
Thanks for the offer Malcolm, I have a 5Ltr tin of waxoyl with a normal pump spray thing which I want to try as I've never used it yet. I'll perhaps put some comments here on it's usefulness! But otherwise I'll see...
Hi All
Literally just finished painting, took some photo's and here's another now the welding is finished (god I hope so!), till next time!
I still can't get the grin off my face... I'll go and say hello to the missus, that should do it!
I also hope the picture works!

Hi Nis14
If you need a small piece to make a small patch you can get it on e-bay.
If you need a little more then I have a Corus depot near me. Look in the yellow pages and phone around for the best prices, that's what I did.

Rob
Hi James Stan
When I started I had a faulty gas valve on the cylinder which Malcolm kindly identified for me. Prior to that I naturally assumed it was my lack of talent but the welds have improved enormously since.
Unfortunately I'm still very much a newby and not really in a position to...
As a separate issue...
If it's insured against fire, how do you go on if you were the cause. Are you covered? lol
Regarding the question; Looks a little risky to me being so close to the filler neck, are you a gambling man?
