It seems to vary between suppliers, the two I tried in Northampton varied quite a bit in price. I think I end up paying about £45 inc vat for a 10 ltr re-fill of 5%
Thanks for the replies chaps but I ran out of time as the wedding was Saturday afternoon & and I wasted most of friday night trying to attache a tiara made from a spring to the brides head
What finish if any?
What I am unsure of is what finish to give it. Allowing that the wedding is tomorrow do I:
Give it as is & let it rust over time.
Paint it black ( would like to paint the bride white but don't think enough time & I would need to get some white paint that I could brush...
You do get a little whiff of glue for sure but it was only a small dab on each bit to stop it moving while I got a tack sorted but I certainly think it might be nasty if you did it in larger quantities
I had a eureeka moment after trying many methods of keeping it all in place with gauntlets, pliers, vice grips etc.... Stick them on first with super glue!
Whilst not in any way in the same league as the previous posts I have made this as a quirky wedding gift for a relation. I was actually fairly pleased with it given that I don't have an arty bone in my body.
Thanks very much for the compliment. Just a word of warning, I made the two top bottle supports exactly the correct distance apart for the bottle to be a tight fit & the next bottle I got was about 5mm wider:rolleyes: So I ended up having to use a jack to open them up a little.
A drawer would...
I was plating over where I had to cut something out & went through the parent metal. The right had side is a horizontal surface which then curves round to a near vertical on the left of the pic. It was also done with half of me in the boot of the car which made seeing what I was doing difficult...
After a lot of help from Oddball things are improving, below is a patch welded to the boot floor using the thin metal technique. I could probably got away with doing longer runs but I definately did not want to be blowing holes & it's going to be pretty much covered by something else anyway...
Oddball was kind enough to be as good as his word & spent a few hours with me yesterday pointing me in the right direction, offering plenty of tips & encouragement. Thanks again!
I spotted this whilst doing a rally in Peru, & of course you just twist the power feed wires & push them into what I guess was once a fuse box. I didn't hang about to chech how well it worked.
Don't forget the 151EN is set up for gasless so you will need a reg (& conversion kit if you want to run on re-fillable bottles), new wire & tips to suit to run on gas but I already had most of that.
If you want one that comes with a reg for mini bottles (you still need a conversion kit at...
Many thanks for the input chaps, it looks like I may be better spending the money on material & consumables & spending the time in the garage instead. Unfortunately getting over to Moulton to have a look would be difficult during office hours.
I'll PM Oddball & try to bribe him with promises...
Many thanks for the reply Don, I know it's a case of practice, practice but starting from zeroish knowledge I have to wonder if I am missing obvious things or little tricks.
A bit of guidance along the lines of "you know why that happened" or "Your weld looks like that because..." would be...
Has anyone done the "DIY Welding & Fabrication" course at moulton College Northampton? It's listed under the Agriculture Short Courses & says it covers:
Health and Safety
Welding equipment and legal requirements
Basic Arc Welding
Basic Gas Welding
Basic MIG Welding
Fabrication exercises...
If I hadn't owned this for 15 years when they were cheap I would not be able to afford one either. I put it in the garage in 1999 to fit some new wings & welll you know the story..... Bit of luck really as that probably saved it.
I have just purchased a Clark 151EN (I already had a reg etc) & have been very pleased with it as a first step on the welder ladder plus I have the option to reun is gaslees if ever required. Under £200 with a VAT free voucher
