Tape is off!!!!, I couldn't wait longer than 1hr after the last coat of green
I must say that although its not perfect, im pretty chuffed with the outcome.
I had a couple runs in the same place on either side infront of the rear wheel arch. I think its dues to me applying too much paint...
Lol. Yeah after I put all the welds on I noticed the rear of the arch was poking out a little further than the other side so it needed a little persuasion before welding through to the inner arch.
here's a video from this year. I came 2nd in class which is good considering the other...
So ive been busy trying repair my Rex which i use for hill climb event.
Never undertaken any work like this before and im using the Clarke 150EN i purchased off ebay.
Seems ok so far.
Happy with the patches in this side.

Im currently trying to work out what the best setup for my needs will be and would appreciate some advise / comments on the following:
I have a SIP 150/3HP compressor which I hope to use for general air tools and for respraying my car.
the workshop is approximately 12m x 5m, there is a 2...
Well my car only weighs 950kg and the lift is rated 2000kg, the torque required from the motor was too much to lift my car no matter what i tried on the V/f and ramp up settings on the inverter. It would just trip out just before the wheels actually left the floor. i figured if i x2 the...
Just bought a SIP 3HP/150 compressor and so far very pleased with it.
I already have a couple 10m lengths of hose and thought i could do with one of those fancy retractable reel drums but dont really want to splash out for one because i dont need the extra hose and to be honest i dont need it...
Long story short:
Bought a 3 phase car lift (cheap).
Bought a Huanyang single to 3 phase inverter.
Didnt work............******, not enough umphhhhh.
Made a 4:1 belt transmission to bolt/weld on the side.
Yipeeeee it works a treat, quite happy now.
Bit more welding to do to make...
Thanks for the feedback. I will buy a mask for next time. Also your right about the white. Maybe its only very lightly coated. You can see some on the right.
When I welded the plate from inside there was quite a bit of powder on the outside but I didn't take any pictures of it.
Due to my own stupidity I feel a little worried.
I have welded 2 stainless steel plates onto some ramps which I can only assume are zinc plated. I was in a well ventilated area. Virtually outside. I have welded about 500mm in total without any respiratory mask.
I now have a mildly sore throat...
Well for a welder that cost me 30 quid I'm over the moon. Seems to do the job. Not sure which is best. Was trying to alter the speed to get good penetration. the last one is bottom left on top and bottom right on bottom. set as follows.
Clarke 151EN
Wire speed set to 7
Amps set to 30 (1 - min)
Sound good then,
Will find out whether it a bummer or not tomorrow when i take it to my friends to try,
I will order all those bits anyhow to give it a bit of a service.
After reading the very informative info on this site, ive decided to go with BOC argoshield, which i believe the regulator...
So I have been keeping an eye out on ebay for a min welder to get me started as a hobby (becomes essential when you own a CRX).
I won the auction last night for 137. The guy said I could view it working. When I got there he had tried to get it running but the wire was slightly corroded so had...
I am a nats whisker away from purchasing a GYS SmartMIG 162, But would just like to check that it would be suitable for bodywork on my honda crx which has very flimsy panel thickness, around 0.8mm i believe.
I would also like to have the option of welding bigger stuff up to about 5mm but my...
