interestingly (in my opinion at least) i was chatting to one of the drag racers (single seater top fuel 'style' thing, but set up for 'bracket racing', so engines last a couple of events, rather than a pass) at the autosport show a few years back, and their cage was just clear coated with a very...
oh, and to answer the question in the original post, at what point do you give up...... not really something ive ever done tbh, although in more than a few instances (including the mini) i really should do..... The general rule of thumb seems to be, if youve lost...
took my mini off the road for a new floorpan in 2004....... ive still got it, its now a completely bare shell on a trolley, buried at the back of the lock up..... reckon it's going to be at least another 2-3 yrs before i get back on it..... cant rush these things.....
Sorry to hear of the van issues, dont really have any input into that side of things at all......
However, the lift.....
A good mate of mine runs a building company, and keeps a small unit for storage/maintaining stuff, and we installed the lift in there... chinese (probably, not actually...
reboring wheels to enlarge the centre bore is straightforward enough, if you've got a big lathe, its a piece of cake, if not, then a milling machine and boring bar will also make short work. ive done it both ways, neither take long. Wobble nuts etc are ok, but if its a valued vehicle, and you...
essentially, i agree with what others are saying, the black and decker powerfiles are reasonably good, i have a few of them scattered about. We were using the one at my old amns quite a lot during the oxford metal work, and killed a few of the arms (cheap enough off ebay) and, in the end decided...
nothing compared to some of the others on here, but a few years ago, i did a 200 mile round trip to turn a plug on, that i was repeatedly assured was ON (they were getting quite agitated about it)... got there, took one look, flicked the switch, and then drove home......
thats a real shame, sorry to hear.
Realistically, the only way to deal with the machines efficiently, is through one of the auction houses, where they'll either find good homes, or go to meet their maker, either way they wont be your problem any more. Ive moved more than my fair share of decent...
buggers round here are so tame you could hunt them with a claw hammer (locals feed them from there hand, im not even exaggerating)..... Its becoming a real issue on the roads round here though, 10 mile commute for me, theres probably 6-7 dead 'uns at the side of the road at the moment, and...
Neither are materials i know much about im afraid, more Peters thing, (and he's already replied, so i very much default to him!) but tbh, theres v few materials i can think of that id trust at that sort of thickness on a critical repair, generally, we would normally say that 2mm is about the...
if it helps, we've had some good sucess with some zirconia products for intermediate finishing, on things like stellite etc, which the cubitron stuff just bounces off..... If i remember, ill have a look in the abrasives cupboard and see what they *actually* are (i know theyre lime green, but...
If it was rough, its was far more likely something like an arc spray coating tbh (or, as you say, something like PTA), HVOF & plasma spray by their very nature tend to go down very smooth. Masking of either to a fine stop is no problem though.....
nice job Brad! We do quite a few fine cutting blades with the hvof, but typically the other side, so that as they wear, they self sharpen. Not actually sure what thyere for now i think of it, perhaps paper industry...... sorry, slightly ot there....
A little busy at the moment, so havent read the whole thread. Short answer is (saftey issues aside) yes you can connect the dead man up to a ball valve, and just close it as you need to operate the pot. it will work fine, mushroom will lift when you close the valve, thats effectively all the...
ive been wearing stuff from cargoland for a while now, seem to be pretty good quality, and stonking value compared with everything else. I like the shorts they do as well!!
As someone said about lidl/aldi stuff its a bit hit and miss with regards to where the pockets are each time you buy the...
I voted for £100, as i reckon that probably the 'normal average' for me over a long enough period of time..... i went on a complete tool buying ban for about a year and a half when i realised i was in with a real shot of having enough savings to clear the mortgage, but i reckon over a few years...
Only people I can think of that are in your general direction (and theyre not really local) that might take on a job like that, are the guys at Actis (UK) in sutton in ashfield..... Theyre pretty damn good at 'one off' stuff like that, and would have no problems, prepping, coating and finishing...
