Wow, thanks for all that info. My only experience of bike electrics was on BSA Bantams and my old Norton Dominator 600.
When I looked at the Shindengen, they seem to still mention mosfets. Is that correct?
Not knowing if the stator is bad, I suppose I wouldn’t damage a new rectifier if I...
Thanks for the very detailed reply Kram. I can see that heat dissipation could be a problem if I coated the stator. When I looked for used stators, I noticed they all had a lot of discolouration in about a third of the winding that looked like overheating. I will test the output with the bike...
Hi, I was getting absolutely zero Ohms. I’m using an old style Aco 8, the type I’ve used for years as I prefer to see an analogue scale for comparison. There’s not even a1/4 ohm on the windings.
The rectifier also measures zero ohms on all but one internal diode.
I wil run the engine and measure...
I wonder if the knowledge bank can help me?
My son’s Triumph Daytona track bike has never charged the battery, so today I set to and removed the rectifier and measured the stator.
The rectifier measures shout on all but three points and the stator measures short on all points. I think the...
Hello chaps. Not been around for a while as I’ve. Not been quite tickets boo.
Then I lost my password as my IPad did an update and reset while I wasn’t using it.
I’m asking for a friend, does anyone know if you can buy the drawer trim for tool chests.
The chrome plastic stuff. And cheap too...
The tool that does my head in is secateurs. Or more accurately the lock. They put them right where your thumb is so that as you close them on a branch, your thumb catches the lock and they stay closed.
The designers could never have actually used a pair. Otherwise they would have spotted the...
That was going to be my suggestion. I’d forgotten how heavy they are until I had to move mine the other day. I do’t think you can break a blacksmith’s vice, only bend the handle.
I wonder if anyone knows what these are called or where to get them?
I have tried every description I can think of but come up blank.
They screw on to motorcycle battery terminals and enable you to attach a 6.3mm female spade connector on them.
They are made of brass.
Thanks in advance for any...
My mate who worked for an electric company, clocked a substantial length of cable in a duct
that was unused
He and his mate found the other end and decided to cut it and drag it through into their van one Sunday afternoon.
He armed himself with an axe an they went and lifted the duct cover and...
I’ve got an old Garmin.
In settings you can choose to avoid
U turns, highways, toll roads ferries and car pool lanes, just tick the boxes.
On the route preferences you can choose fastest time, shortest distance or go off road.
You can also choose a vehicle which can be car, bicycle or...
They are poled alternately to each other. If I hold another magnet to them and go around, they attract and repel alternately.
I think the two slots either side of the magnet, isolate it and allow a pulse to be induced in the coil.
I presume when the magnets came together when they became...
I got an Honda silent generator to look at that wouldn’t start. Pulled the ‘flywheel’ that contains the magnets that revolve around the windings to generate the voltage. This also excites the coil to generate a spark. Two of the magnets had come unstuck. And stuck to each other.
I’ve spaced them...
I’ve got a load of Scimitar SE4 spares including chrome bumpers and 2 1/2 engines. Any idea where I could get rid of them. It’s the Zephyr straight six version. They only made just over 100. The body and wire wheels come with the bits.
