Hi all.
I've got a tricky question. I was hoping someone here would have some experience or insight.
I went for a job at a workshop. The boss was keen to hire me but he said he'd put me on a trial for a few weeks to see how I got on. He told me to bring in my tools and do a couple of days a...
Absolutely. It will be what you can do not what codes you have. And a lot of it is DIY....
I'm self employed and build my own bikes. There are things I want to weld and try but don't because I don't want to ruin months of work with a botched weld.
Ideally, I'd work as an apprentice but I'm...
Thanks for the reply..
The course does seem pretty basic. I think I've got most of what's offered already down. Although it does look like a great course for those who want to get started.
I'm looking for more advanced training and a recognised certificate to go with it.
A couple of years ago I did a C&G L2 in Welding and fabrication. It got me started and taught me a lot. I've bought welders and built a few decent projects. I'd say I'm pretty competent to a DIY standard.
I work in the Custom Motorcycle industry and coding is generally not that important but...
I friend of mine was renting a unit and doing the same thing. He was covered for contents, liability, and the motor insurance on his car, van and any bike he needed to test ride..
That was with Network Trade.
He was paying £1400 a year. Considering I pay £1200 at the moment for business...
I'm expanding my motorcycle restoration and customisation business out of my home workshop into a large industrial unit.
I'll be subletting half of a workshop from a large engineering set up which is a non-profit 'Hobby'.
I need to get insurance. Liability and contents insurance to start with...
I've tried all sorts of welding methods. The studs are M6 and they are so corroded they crumble. I guess its worth another go using the blob method.
The studs did have thread protruding when I got it. I put as much heat into the head as I dared without warping it. They still wouldn't budge...
The studs are all snapped off. Nothing to weld a nut onto.
Yes, a tilting mill vice is what I need but they seem to only go up to 100mm / 4"
That won't get a cylinder head in.
I've thought about bolting the head onto some plate then welding on something that will fit into the vice but...
Hey all.
As a motorcycle restorer I often have to drill out broken studs, bolts etc.
I have a particularly tricky job on. I have to drill out some severely corroded exhaust studs from a motorcycle head.
The problem is, the studs are all at a 20 degree angle so I can't get a straight...
Yes. It was a problem with my media once I'd done a few engines.
I've learnt the hard way that I need to degrease as much as possible before blasting.
I also learnt the hard way about disconnecting the gun before looking too
Lucky it was greasy extra fine grit :ashamed:
FINALLY..... IT'S WORKING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure it was just the nozzle. But maybe a combination of a few things.
I used a new gun and first tried a 4mm nozzle but that didn't work so well. Too small for the media. I went up to a 6mm Nozzle and WOW, what a difference. I'm now using a...
When I bought the blaster the glass was broken and there were no screens. I just assumed there was a piece of glass and a sheet of perspex for safety. Like I said, I'm learning everything the hard way..
I threw the glass and bought a piece of perpsex just to keep going. I did look for...
