If the wings have been replaced they may have been plug welded back on rather than spot welded. My Escort was like that and the welds were a bitch to separate, much harder than the spot welded wing on the other side. i ended up wrecking the wing rail so need to replace that too.
Hi sorry to hijack the thread but im interested in the pea shooter, well more interested in correct flow rates really. How do you judge the flow rate?
Thanks.
PS Im a nubie too but would be more than happy if my welds looked like yours, well done:clapping:
Thanks guys, A mate in my car club builds electric circuits for a living and he has confirmed the Transformer is goosed. He has one but it much larger than the original.
A complete new board is £60 dont fancy paying that so looking for a replacement.
Thanks again for all you help,:clapping:
I will have another go tomorrow night, perhaps some heat will loosen any glue. Assuming the worst and the board is faulty, what is the spares situation?
Im having problems even getting to the back of the pcb. I have taken the wire feed knob off, undone the little nut at the back of the knob and was expecting it to then be loose. But its not, cant see any screws or other fixings. Is the little tray it sits in bonded to the body? I tried to gently...
Thanks for that, i tried tapping the relay on mine, made had no effect though.
The machine came to me secondhand the seller said he bought it to restore his mini now it was done he was selling it on. I have only used it a couple of times since purchase in oct/nov last year. So it does spend...
Firstly thanks for the detailed reply, im a numpty with electrics. I had already checked the basics but i checked again. Socket ok. Fuse ok. plug is moulded so im guessing thats ok. Bought a meter and did the tests,
240 at the brown wire
240 at point 1 and 2 on the pcb
Here is a pic of...
Well ive had the cover off and all seems to be secure in there and also in the torch.
Where do you take a welder for repair and is it worth it compared with the cost of a new one?
Not according to the instructions mate. This is taken from the PDF.
(i) ON/OFF,
The ON/OFF switch is self explanatory, but serves a secondary function. You will note
that it is coloured amber. The switch doubles as a lamp, which will illuminate if the
Thermal Overload intervenes.
(ii)...
I think the only light on it is the on/off switch which lights if the machine cuts out on thermal overload.
It didnt stop while in use, I stopped work went back about 30mins later and it wouldnt work.
Using the machine today, got about half way through and knocked off to give me old back a rest, went back to the machine and.....It wont work, no wire feed and no sound of it trying to feed either. Checked the plug fuse and had a look at the trigger all seems fine.
Any ideas?
Hi Mate Im a newbie at MIG too so obviously no expert but that looks great to me especially considering it your first attempt. My Mazda Eunos is showing the first signs of rot in the sills so i have taken inspiration from you efforts to get the job done. Repair panels are available for the sill...
Well ive been getting some practise on some offcuts i got from a local car panel shop. This is about the best i managed.
This is the side i welded from.
This is the other side.
Both the above have one end cleaned up to see how it looked.
My main problem was distortion...
Hi all, i dont wish to repeat myself with the intro so its here.http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=36484
I have repairs to make to both cars, not big ones in the grand scheme of things but im sure it will seem that way having very little experience of welding and none with a...
Well my MK2 Escort is definitely a classic. My MK1 Mazda Eunos is maybe not reached classic status yet but it is almost 20 years old.

Hi all I have been lurking on here for a while before taking the plunge and buying a MIG welder for car repairs. Many moons ago when i was an apprentice i did some basic oxy acetylene welding but nothing since. I have a couple of classic cars that i like to maintain myself and now metal repairs...
