Hi all,
Just looking for any recommendations for stove enamel/paint for my gas bottle wood burners.
I made one a couple of years ago but I can't remember where I found the paint, which was pretty crap anyway to be honest. Finished another one for a mate last week so wouldn't mind a...
It worked very well actually, but your right about fuelling it, the door is too low.
It takes a small amount of wood to get a great blaze going, but if too much goes in it gets too smokey. Probably due to the position of the vents, which are actually about 2" above the base due to the "bowled"...
Some great projects going on here, kinda inspirational. :D
I took advantage of the lovely weather today, and finally finished a burner I started sometime last year.
I think the bottle originally held expanding polystyrene under pressure, its a fairly thin bottle compared to the gas bottles so...
I dont think the MOT man can fail a weld just because its inspection is hampered by underseal or paint.
On the other hand, I would always like them to see my weldings BEFORE I paint or underseal them. Its not really a good idea to waste the MOT mans time by trying to pull the wool over his...
Hi all,
Following on from this thread:

I've had one of these bottles in my garden for a while, and decided to break out the grinder/welder at the weekend for some fun. :D
About 4 or 5 hours work, most of which was spent on that...
I made a wood burner from one of these today, exactly the same bottle, but it held expanding foam originally.
I drilled it to vent it out, and when I cut it open it seems to be about 1.5 to 2mm thick.
Easy to work with, and only time will tell if its adequate for the job. :D
I'll be welding...
I have a Clarke 100E from Machine Mart and I would say its pretty good with car bodywork.
I taught myself to weld with this machine and then went on to save a "teabag" Cavalier with it.
Also done things like stainless exhausts and brackets etc.... no problem.
Think they cost about £150...
I had the same wire feed problem as you seem ot be having mate.
It turned out that the wheel on my wire feeder was too tight, and was clamping the wire as it came off the reel.
Try loosening it off a bit.
Nice work there, and nice project. :D
i bought the clarke 100E from maachine mart in 1998.
never had a problem with it, great starter welder for £160.
but i would recommend you also invest in a re-fillable bottle.
the disposable ones don`t last too long.
 nice one jolly, i might take you up on that.
i`m gonna do some hunting at the weekend, see if i can come up with
a local source for a whole bike......
and research tells me that a centrifugal clutch might be best, so i`ll be looking for that too.
i`ll get back to you if i need any...
this is something i`ve been looking to try for a while now.
i also thought about the C90 engine and gearing, mainly coz i had a "honda plastic" when i was 17.
i`ve tried finding a source for an engine, which i want before i start building.
someone gave me a manual (not self propelled) mower...
this is a good site for stainless tubing or box section:
http://www.allstainlessltd.co.uk/
used them for my exhaust parts, quick delivery and very helpful on the phone too.
8) hey mike and welcome.
loving your ideas for the colt mate, sounds fantastic.
can`t agree more with your comment on the "chav mobiles" we see on the streets every day!!!
seems there`s not enough of us with any imagination.
jap cars rule as far as i`m concerned, and the...
the wee hole in the back of the weld is simply a lack of gas at the back of the weld. probably too much penetration.
timing is important when welding thin sheet steel, after each weld leave the metal to cool down and it will shrink again, to a certain extent. then start the next weld.
what...
