Reading this I think I'm leaning towards 1k at the moment.
I can't find any recommendations for paint shops in the area but the one that seems to keep popping up is Kent Paints, who seem to deal mainly with Lechler, so I'll give them a visit.
Thanks for the replies
From what I can see Upol Clear is 1k. So for spraying in my situation which is going to give the best finish? 1k, waterbased or Jawel have a non-isocyanate 2k. Anyone have any experience with this?
Apologies for a thread you've probably all answered before, but I can't seem to find much clear information on what I should do.
I'll be respraying car panels, off the car, in an empty garage. I'll sheet up the garage to avoid as much dust as possible but I'm fully aware this is DIY job by a...
Just bought a Clarke Tiger 14/60 second hand from Gumtree. Included a couple of long hoses, spray gun and a huge metal chest for storage so massive bargain. Just need to a new gun and the supplies.
Hi Bill. Recognise you from UKS. It's a normal CSE but needs tidying up and have had an aero kit sitting about for 2 years now.
Just bought a house. Good news is I'll soon have plenty of space and can use my own garage as a spray booth before I move the clutter in. Bad news is I have no money...
I feel I already know the answer, but as a complete novice I'd honestly like to know if it's possible for me to do a half decent job at home.
I need to respray some panels on my Saab 9000 (off the car). I have a wing, 2 doors, front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a spoiler to respray to give...
I do use clean and strip discs, however to some extent you're right. I think I went a bit ott grinding down the welds so at the 2nd time of welding it probably was a bit thin.
Rain's stopped play for now though.
Thanks for the tips. Have cut it out again and made a bigger patch. I did a bit more practicing on the old one and managed to get a lot nicer welds by just doing spot welds, however it's still a bit sketchy. There's no way I can build a pool of weld in 2-3 seconds as it blows through so quickly...
I'll give it a go, but it's blowing through really quickly. I was trying to seam weld about 1.5cm at a time and was rushing to try to keep ahead and stop it blowing through, rarely succeeded though. It's like I've got it set too high but as said it's on the lowest power setting.
Following on from my Viva thread that's doing nothing because of time and weather, we have this. It's my girlfriend's ex-daily that came off the road over 6 months ago because it decided to stop running. Long story short the plan was to quickly get it running and flog it, as that didn't happen...
Wondered what on earth you were going on about then but I get it :D I didn't mean to hurt her :(
I'm not in much of a rush to start the welding at the moment. Well I am, but the car's outside under a car port and this week the weather's either been too wet or too windy to do any welding (I...
Inner arch and outer arch inner skin. Half the seatbelt mounting plate fell off, the other half I cut out.
And again, bit easier to see the holes in the sill area.
Same area, looking in to the sill (the red lines are the start of me trying to work out what panel goes where)
From...
It was there in 2011 and it will definitely be there again. 2014? Would love to go this year as per original plans as it's 50 years of the Viva, however that seems very very unlikely at the moment.
I'm now at the point where I need to decide how and in what order I'm going to repair bits, and...
I'm sick of these things, I never find they work properly (probably just me using it) but they stop working after 5 welds, or just break.
I've only used cheap ones though as that's all that's been available. My dads cheap one first then Screwfix one's, although you now have to order them. I'd...
Didn't get as much done as I wanted to today but I did package more or less my entire shed of parts into watertight boxes, so hopefully no more rogue rusting.
Fully removing the arch gave me a good look at the sill. I knew it already but it's a bit messy, holes through to the underside and...
Spot, it went from this
to this
Anyway...
Amazing. The first good day working on the Viva in god knows how long. Everything went to plan and better (other than my drill being useless).
Many thanks to Droopsnoot, Spot the welders dog and the others that advised I grind the...
