Whose idea was it to name SI units after dead Scientists? Most shooters could visualise a muzzle energy of 5160 ft/lb but not 7000 Joules. When you look up what a Joule is you find it's one Newton acting over 1 metre, so now you have to look up Newtons.
The new Manhattan T4-R, which has been promised since last June, might actually be released this month. The T3-R was a superb box and the new one promises to be even better. One feature is global search which means that, if you search for a particular film or programme, it brings up all...
Last things I made were these percussion revolver cylinder loading presses.
Made on my Super7 using the milling vice. Since then the lathe has been down while I'm fitting a 3 phase motor and VFD.
I have a copy of the Second Hand Myford Lathes Inspection Guide I can send you. Two good Facebook sites are Myford lathes and Myford Lathe Parts. Lathes on there at realistic prices, not the overpriced stuff on Ebay. Myfords are good because of the parts availability but they do command premium...
I don't mind as it's just emailing out a .pdf. I'm surprised that so many people are interested enough to want to have a go. Also the grandkids are well amused that grandad is an "influencer".
Since I fitted a DRO to my Myford Super7 the suppliers have brought out an upgrade that fits the magnetic strip into the bottom of the cross slide, making a much neater and better protected installation. Installing the kit means milling a slot 2mm deep, 10mm wide and about 200mm long in the...
Your roses are nicer than the ones I used to make in stainless steel. I had no trouble selling them for £30 each on FB Marketplace. I would make a batch and advertise them in time for Valentine's Day. There are cheaper ones on Ebay but what girl wants a rose made out of an old Coke can?
Bit surprised to find when I cut the cable that, of the 10mm thickness, only about 4mm is wire, the rest being the plastic coating.
I stripped back the wire in the ball, fitted and welded a grub screw, splayed out the wire ends, fluxed it and filled the cavity with molten solder. More of a...
Plenty of good ideas here, thanks. It's for securing the guns in the car while travelling so just needs to be good enough to deter an opportunist thief. I will try the solder fill and cross drill technique.

I need to cut off the loop in this 10mm cable, which won't go through the trigger guards of my rifles, and fix on this 25mm steel ball.
I don't have the means to swage it on so was thinking about drilling through, inserting cable and filling with weld or lead. Suggestions appreciated.

Here are some pics of my bandsaw frame build. I used what was to hand at the time, 30x30x3mm box section, 25x8mm flat bar, 10mm threaded rod.
External dimensions are 560x260mm. The handle is held by a 10mm rod passed through it and secured with R clips. There are some mouldings inside the...
Made a vertical stand for my Aldi portable bandsaw.
A rod through the hollow handle holds it on, two cap screws on the motor housing rest on the back bar and the screw clamps hold it all steady. At present it's clamped in the vice but I might fit some feet on it later. Just need to fit a...
These are the standard drills for rubber bungs
They are just thin wall tube sharpened on the outside. You could make one to mount in a drill. use washing up liquid as lubricant.
There are always a lot of No.3s on Ebay and prices are all over the place. I'm having a big clear out after Christmas so maybe I'll list it on this forum with the other goodies.
