Hi All,
I have finally got round to getting an electrician in to wire up my garage for my compressor and welders. I also got my Clarke spot welder out and read the instructions which say I must use a 25amp supply.
Now I have 2 questions so I get this right:
1/ do I have to wire the spot...
Right, cured the pulsing......... had to tighten the wire clamp slightly.
Decided to try and get the welding right before trying to join to pieces.
My second attempt looks like this.
3 rows of welding down, 3 rows up and so on.

Cheers guys,
back out tomorrow to try different speeds and power.
iirc I did try wire speed 4 but that's when I burnt holes in the 2 pieces of joined metal (I was using a butt clamp to help me gap correctly).

Well after just over a year of buying the Clarke 160TE I finally got round to buying the agroshield light gas bottle so I could have a play.
My runs on a sheet "seem" ok but when I tried to weld two bits together I had varying results. Sometimes I would do a nice run, then I'd burn a hole in...
Oh, oh, I think my stuff has arrived today too
And I changed my order twice yesterday and it still came today
Thanks for that Steve!!
Michael
Hi,
I've also got the 165te and I must admit I'm buying a new reg as the one it comes with is only a single gauge to show bottle content not bar/psi setting (getting it from weldequip).
Just picked up a bottle of argo shield light from my local BOC supplier, I was going to get the X size...
Well this is how it arrived......with it's proud new owner
We've split the body from the chassis already so these are the repairs we need to do to the chassis. Due to it's age the replacement panels are crap so we will fab parts as need.
This small hole
And this slightly bigger one...
Well, after selling all my other projects back in the summer we are finally going to crack on with my sons 1955 VW Beetle.
It needs to be finished for his 17th birthday in August 2008 :artist:
I'll post progress pics up on here as well as keep my daily diary going at...
Alex,
You're right there, I did feel a little uneasy and it didn't help having to use the same bit of metal over again.
When I get the right noise it came as a shock but now I know what I'm looking for once I have the metal I'll be a lot more calm (I hope).

Hi Boombang,
The small regulator is a temporary thing until I can get argoshield in the X bottle.
I'm in Waltham Abbey and hey, any pointers always welcome.
Michael
Thanks guys,
Will listen for gas again but defo no "phist" before.
I did hand tighten the bottle to regulator by hand as per the instructions. Will now try tighten with spanner.
I'll keep you psoted.............damn visitors have just arrived so I can't go out to the garage till 4.00pm...
Well Thomas and I went out in the garage to attempt our first weld.
The welder is a Clarke 160TE, settings were:
wire feed speed - 3
set to minimum
welding volatage - 1
Gas regulator setting between 3-6
First thing to note is that when I connected the gas bottle to the regulator...
LOL, he's only 15............
I'm booking both of us on the 10 week welding course at the local college.
We're both off out there now to try our hand at some test welds :welder:
Michael (and Thomas).
