Just a quick update to say that I fitted the new contactor and the welder is now working again! So I can only presume that the original contactor was actually faulty.
This welder must be 15 years old and I got it give to me when it fell off a pallet at speed in my work at the time, but I love...
Thanks for the response guys, I think hotrodders tip about the hidden initial start up maybe the first place to look , because I literally touch the trigger and puff I have blown a big hole in it! Why have that initial start up %? Would you just not keep it @0% all the time as your ramp up will...
Hi guys, on a roll starting threads at the minute!
Has anyone got any experience of welding thin aluminium (1~1.2mm) on one of these machines? The issue is on start up, it's like the welder starts with a big surge of current and instantly blows a hole in the thin material. I can start the arc...
Got in contact with smp and they don't do one for it. I agree with your thinking Richard and hence why I bought a fairly decent welder to start with, buy cheap buy twice, as the old saying goes, and I wouldn't want to take a risk of plugging a sub standard pedal in there, It was just in the hope...
Just a quick update the control voltage for the contactor is 24v ac and dad has fitted a 220v coil, have ordered new contactor and hopefully should be all sorted
Thanks for the help
Hi there, i have a murex tradestig 220a, quite a new machine about 4 years old from memory. Can anyone recommend a quality foot pedal for it? Its a can bus type and from murex its around £400~500 :dontknow:
I don't know what was wrong with the original contactor, if anything. I was working away and when i came home, dad said "your welder stopped working, i thought it was 'that bit' (pointing) so i got one and changed it" can i see the old one? "no its in the bin" now he did say it was the exact...
No the welder stopped and he replaced the contractor but the new one never worked.
Thanks for your help, diagram is starting to make more sense to me now. will check out the contactor tonight, but am i right in thinking, from what your saying, that if the gas solenoid is working the contactor...
The pub would be a much nicer discussion to have! lol
Where is the gas solenoid on the diagram? I forgot to say that the contactor has been changed, my dad took it upon himself to do this and has binned the old one, am i right in saying that it will have to have a 24v ac coil for it to work...
Hi there, my mig has stopped working, i have been through all the previous threads but didn't find anything of help to me, so I'm hoping someone can help.
I think i have narrowed it down to a pcb board problem but I'm not totally confident and i don't want to buy a new board not being sure.
So...
