Ornamental turners milling sub spindle its old
i have seen these style of attachments but we tend to make them in Australia as there aint many Holtzapffel lathes around here
these are the things i noticed
Round leather Belt drive
Cast Brass construction
and can pivot on the spindle not...
Oh yes it is super critical in defense and industry for all molded to metal bonding white metal is the acceptance standard
https://www.graco.com/us/en/contractor/solutions/articles/surface-prep-standards-explained-sspc-nace-iso-8501.html
In all cases we would typically mould the part fully...
I cannot give to much away but i work in the rubber industry here in Australia bottom line see if you can get your hands on some Pliobond it used to be made by goodyear and is still around man it it can stick it to a blanket so to speak it was the original and the best is Lord Chemlock and this...
Mate please dont take it the wrong way re the no power feed for you comment i would have that in a heart beat by the way a machine like that with all the extras will easily reach 7K + Aud at the moment with the added attraction of a horizontal spindle you did well
No Sorry no power down feed for you so a standard poverty pack Taiwan mill with fine feed / handwheel / Lever quill for drilling etc from the 90s Align have been the go to power feed units of which you have two all operate on 110 volt and are based on Bridgeport / clone so can bolt onto any...
Hey mate take a picture from the other side of the head as it could be the side shift on the lever down feed similar to radial arm drill feed engagement
That's a seriously good bit of kit you got the mate
All the best Bruce
Hi Matt yes unfortunately you have obtained the demon child so to speak infamous drill mill power feed unit that is cobbled up on via a bolt on bracket to the left side of the table and the dog drive gear wheel. when you look through some of the machinery dealers here you will see what i mean...
I have been using Lanotec products for years also Lanox WD40 is too light and doesn't last / hold up well over time here in Australia its the local product no problems with rats cause i don't have a 20 litre drum of pure lanolin grease sitting around the shed :)
Bruce
I get my fine mesh from a plastics extrusion place commonly used as a screen in the die head they ususally have a range of sizes and diameters etc for a few dollars
Good work Ichris too following along with great interst
Yes BTC are a chuck manufacturer but they make super spacer Chucks too more likely an accessory line to go along with a milling machine ie Milwaukee,Kearney and Tracker, Van Norman Cincinatti etc in the early days
Well worth the effort that one Mate
Thats a straight up high end toolmakers unit what ever make it is its an early Super Indexing Head typically now only available in single plane set up
Google "super indexing head" to see what i mean
Good find that
Well if you 3D scan the outer shape of the part including what can be seen of the jacket ports on the other combustion side / face its a relatively easy Shell command to generate the inner structure . its typically given as a thickness so in that case 10 mm cast iron 14mm in ally etc or modify...
Thanks for that mate now i can scale a drawing of that head now. keep up the good work on rebuilding that machine. I like the way the table has been repaired to fix broken out t bolts true old school.
Good luck mate
Very True mate but at the same time it is a import lathe on two pedestals' if I remember the warco products stuff if its like the stuff we get in Aus its sort of like well a wet noodle if you don't bolt them down and level them or at least stick them on a proper well engineered base (Colchester...
Mate I just have to ask is the lathe bolted down and levelled yet because that's the fist place to start before even worrying about headstock / tailstock alignment issues
Good luck with it
Weg specify for a 220 - 240 v line a minimum of 170 to 267 v max VFD buy there nature fix the current side of things within themselves its handy to overdrive a motor as I do up to 75 hertz Amps is Amps so if in my case a rated 10 amp in will output 10 Amp out but I have yet to see on mine any...
2.2kw motor is 3 hp and will be enough to run that TOS in a hobby Environment all day every day and if it pulls more than 5 amps taking a 1/4 cut I would be very surprised in Australia a brand new WEG 2.2 kw inverter and 2.2 kw 240v 3 phase motor can be had for 600 AUS or roughly 300 Pound just...
Like I said never knock back a free TOS that will run fine with a 2.2 kw / 3.0 kw or 4.0 kw motor and VFD and approx. 15 amp 220/240 v single phase as Ronan says the soft start is the key
