Carlos,
Had mine about 12 months with no issues so far. Moved it about a fair bit in vans, up ladders etc with no issues. Can't comment on the logevity but I gave it this sort of reasoning when faced with the same choice:
Coils: + nothing really to go wrong, proven reliability, easy to...
Just my 2 pence worth.
I spent a very long time reading the posts on this forum and after a lots of thinking and a call to Steve at Weldequip I bought the ESAB C160i to help me doing up my VW T25.
I am using the ESAB with Argonsheild Lite and have now done quite a bit of welding in my...
I looked into this years ago. I liked climbing and pot holing and thought why not combine it with work. I found that the companies (offshore mostly CAN Offshore, Hi-Rope, Technitube etc) were very intereested in my trade (mechanical fitter) but not too interested in the rope access abilities...
Here is a pic of my ESAB on a tolley i made for it to get an idea of the size (Y size cylinder)
I know there are loads of people on here with Portamigs, most of them with loads more experience than me so hey what do I know :laughing: All i know is that i spent ages trying to...
I don't know how to link posts :dontknow::dontknow: so I have pasted in what I wrote previously on my experience as a novice with the ESAB C160i.
I bought one of these from Weldequip about three months ago to help me do up a VW T25 van. I had very little welding experience and like you tend...
My 2p worth
Ryobi 18v cordless drilll and circular saw - killed them in two months site work
Dewalt - only borrowed but not impressed
Milwalkee - way way too heavy
Metabo - got a full set for site work had loads of issues with batteries and the quality was not what I expected - never again...
I have to agree with you. The power source (transformer or inverter) is the real choice people need to make and that to me is driven by the need for a truely portable machine (operation from a generator and long extension being portability factors).
The ESAB is really light and portable...
Hey no offence meant by ref to linked tacks  what i meant was that the welder will go low enough to lay runs not have to link tacks. I do realise the benefit of linked tacks on thin stuff ;)
yeh i know what you mean about me being the only one really to post about ESAB C160is. I remember looking for ages to find reviews etc before I bought mine and couldn't really find any so I keep posting things in hope of helping others  And before anyone asks i'm not and ESAB dealer...
Well i will try to add some experience with the ESAB C160i. I bought one of these from Weldequip about three months ago to help me do up a VW T25 van. I had very little welding experience and like you tend to buy things that are a bit over the top
I have posted some of the results...
this like almost all range cookers being made in the same factory in Italy. I found this out whilst trying to order bits :(:(
My thought is that certain factories are tooled up to make certian products. The factory will then vary the component quality to meet a brands (clients) price point...
I know its a bit above budget but i bought an ESAB C160i inverter mig. I am really really pleased with it. I bought it for car bodywork and it does that very well. What made me buy it was that it is very portable and can be run off a long extension or generator if needs be. I have welded up...
Nice van :D:D
Mine is a later one, 89 T25 Panel Van
I bet there are a few people on here with VWs maybe a topic for a sub-forum 'VW Welding'. The need for welding and VW ownership seem to go hand in hand
