CO2/Argon mix is preferable but I use solely CO2 and it's fine for occasional use
My company do a lot of work for a family that owns several pubs and restaurants so they kindly offered to keep me supplied with CO2 free of charge, but when I asked him how much it was costing him he said...
I need some practice neatening up my welds and I'm struggling to get hold of any scrap to practice on.
Any tried and tested suggestions?
Obviously I want to pay as little as possible as it will be binned afterwards.
Should indeed, in my experience they aren't all that useful, they do get a grip but not a huge amount, and the bolt/screw woudlnt have snapped in the first place if just a small amount of force was needed.
Yes the mask falling down was the problem, as well as it not parking properly when it was lowered and occasionally dipping onto my chin, not ideal when I'm trying to weld, now it parks in the up and down position perfectly.
The (used but fantastic condition) lens was a good deal at only £20...
I weld for leisure/hobby only and have access to free CO2 bottle/refills so couldn't justify getting an argon mix and it works fine for me on any power setting.
True it's not as 'neat' as using an argon mix but fine for personal use.
Pubs pay next to nothing for the stuff so see if you can...
Well thanks a lot people, this has given me a lot to think about and, after much thought and scrap paper drawings, I think we've come up with a suitable solution.
Of course I'd be stupid to divulge exactly what I've got planned but it's all above board and should prove very secure (and keep...
Brilliant thanks chaps, I'm going to order some new mounting details as the headgear itself is in fine condition so hopefully that will sort it.
In the meantime I've butchered one of my cheapy £10 masks for the headband and it seems to be working fine as a temporary solution.
My speedglas helmet is starting to show it's age, bought a new lens unit for it so it functions brilliantly but the headgear mechanism is worn so it doesn't always stay where I want it to.
Where can I get a replacement and how much are they?
Does it have to be genuine speedglas or are...
Another door on the inside does sound great, however the door opens inwards so this may be a problem.
External gate would, as suggested, suggest high value contents, but may be a deterrent.
I think a deadbolt in each corner of the existing door would be a start I feel but i'd happily spend...
Just wondering if I can pick your brains.
I have a small industrial unit for my odd jobs and it has quite a lot of expensive gear in it, and some surrounding units have been broken into recently so I'm starting to get a bit worried.
The front door is a wide shutter door and seems to be...
One of my other on-the-sides/hobbies aside from welding and spraying is signwriting, so I have a vinyl cutting plotter. I just got an image of the clark logo off t'internet, converted it to a useable format and added the 'weld 185E' using a couple of fonts, then set it to cut, apply using...
Well, work is a bit slow at the moment and I had a few hours spare yesterday so I thought why not use some of the left over Transit white and give the poor thing a new look, after it's taken so much abuse from us over the years.
Not exactly an epic project but it killed a few hours.
Not...
I've found that sometimes these chinese 'copies' are simply re-branded products which would usually cost a bit more, so service items and spares are not a problem, however £200 is quite a high price to pay for the risk.

What do we reckon to that?
Wouldn't mind a stud welder for panel pulling and that seems to be way under half the price of similar looking systems.
Is it a case of "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is"? Bearing in mind it would get very light hobby use only.
my little unit, it's not too big but has a nice little office bit to the left for my signwriting/vinyl cutting gear and just big enough for my general tinkering.
The first day I got the keys:
It all went downhill from there  - at it's worst:
It's in a pretty good...
I've had a pipe pop off a small 25l 1.5hp compressor (correct pipe but 'bodged' connection), luckily it didn't damage anything but my boxer shorts were goners.
Moral: Don't cut corners on airline, it's cheap enough to get the proper stuff.
