It really depends how good a welder you are mate. For a nice neat bead it would ideally be a flush fit, it is possible to bridge a few mm but it makes the job alot harder and it wont look as good unless you go to the hassle of welding it then grinding it back and possibly running another beat...
I never was very good with paragraphs, anyhow. Im not planning on doing this for a long time obviously as im still green to this work (not that its my decision anyway). I was more interested in what is the more reccomended way that is more likely to give good results. We couldnt make the work...
Hi all, im 16 and basically an unofficial apprentice (been working for this company for three weeks now)...we make bespoke stainless products 99% of which are catering related , canopies, serverys, hot cuboards, sinks and shelves etc. Even though i havent been working there long, im welding such...
Thanks for the help all...ill read over everything again when im not ******ed, hahaa. Ill be bending it all myself and making it all from straight tube anyway with the hydraulic bender, also have a manual hydro one too so it shouldnt be a problem. Im looking at 5 maybe 6 bends at absolute...
Hi lads, ive got a 2litre 8 valve nova that im building which will hopefully be on the road by november ish time. Ive got a magnex 4 branch that i had with my new engine. I was planning on making a flange of sorts and buying a full magnex system for it but i thought id spare myself some money...
Right, you maybe able to help then. Whats a qualification worth getting? I can mig stick and tig dc mainly but ive done a tiny amount of ally and should be able to pick it up relatively quick. Are there NVQ's available?
I think ill go for the 160TM ill only ever use gas and it looks a better peice of kit to my eye hahaa, cheers for the reply fella! going to order one now :)
Hiya lads, Ive always been interested in fabrication and recently left school a month or two ago. I went straight into work fitting ductwork with my dad (sub contracting)....fitting for me wasnt something i enjoyed, the money yes but the work? NO. We started contracting to an old mate of my dads...
Hmmm, planning on ordering a machine tonight, think i may opt for a clarke 160. Whats the difference between the machines? is the one an inverter so i could use a spool gun for ali etc...
Ohh and one more thing being im not after a small sized machine, ie. a hobby clarke mig as in my personal experience these machines dont have great wire feeds! which isnt all that usefull when it comes to welding bodywork to a decent standard. Im more after a medium sized (ish) machine as i use...
Hi all, im after another mig asap as im restoring two cars at current. Got a price for a 200amp single phase oerlikon through work last week and it came out at £550 +vat...long term ill probably wish id bought it, but since 95% of home work is bodywork, i dont see the point in paying that much...
The lowest amperage i weld at is roughly 30amps sometimes 25. The majority of my work is 45 or 70amps, slope up and down isnt generally used and i never have the opourtunity to use a footpedal as most welds are in awkward positions so a footpedal isnt much use to get the job done fast....thanks...
Hi all, im on the hunt for a 'fixed' helmet for stainless tig work (new job)....ive always used an auto helmet but since getting used to a fixed lens i much prefer it. The only downside being it can sometimes be awkward when tacking things up using the fixed lens helmet. Ive heared theres a...
I used to hate fixed masks, use my esab eye-tech for mig (i mainly do bodywork) and also the occasional stick but in work i prefer to use a fixed mask (all stainless tig) One of the reasons being is when welding, sometimes the mask will flicker, not only can it cause damage to your eyes over...
Brilliant workmanship mate! where are you from if you dont mind me asking!, i was planning to go to castle combe today but couldnt make it so got on with my engine instead lol ,my mate went though and said it was great,he finally got meekes autograph and a pic with him, lucky sod haha
