I did have some success by dismantling & resealing a DG unit. You need a very sharp knife to cut the sealant, & it needs a lot of patience to keep going around the sealant to eventually get through it without putting pressure against the glass, as it will crack easily. when it's all finally...
A few years ago I went through a period where i was fitting a lot of steering column knuckle universal joints to mk3 fiesta's . My regular motor factor was supplying me with QH branded UJ, which were crap, i was having to replace them again a few weeks later, sometimes the same cars came back...
Although i generally do disconnect the battery & sometimes other easy to access components such as alternator, ecu, srs, etc, sometimes i do forget to disconnect the battery & no damage has been done. But i welded a ford orion many years ago with battery disconnected & the owner told me it...
Berlingo front springs are not nice to do, I did some on a berlingo van a few years ago. The springs are stupidly long & had to be compressed to at least half of their free length to get the the new ones on. !
Curtain wire works well, I used it in my sealey welder, but should do the same job in a clarke ?
I found that stripping the white covering from the ends of the curtain wire & using electrical shrink tube gave it the correct diameter !

I bought something similar a few years ago..even though it was labelled as car underseal, i think the stuff i got was really just bitumen roofing stuff, it didn't really stick to bare metal, or primed/painted metal very well & started to peel of after a couple of weeks !
I have changed both the wiper wheel boxes & cable 3 times this year on a defender, these were all britpart, & kept stripping the teeth & so were returned to paddock, which they exchanged each time, but really got fed up of replacing them, so got genuine Landrover ones from the dealer, no...
I often find that fords from this era have wax on the inside of the sill, which is a real fire risk when welding !
Have a feel though those rust holes inside the sill to see if if feels waxy. If you still want to do it, cut a bigger hole so you can get inside & clean all the wax off !
I would start with having a look at the switch in the torch first, they are often just a bit of metal that presses down to make contact ?
Also try bypassing the activation wire (to test it ) from this switch that runs the length of the unbilical lead, constant movement may have caused a breakage ?
I had considered that the tab on the thyristor may be connected to one of the pins, but i checked it before i fitted it & there is no connection between the pins & the tab.
There is only a small amount of heat sink grease on the thyristor & resistor because i didn't have any, so pinched a bit...
I recently had a problem with the wire feed on my sealey 130XT, whereby the wire feed feed motor would run at full speed no matter what the control knob was set at. After doing a bit of research the problem seemed to point towards the SCR/ thyristor TL6006, I managed to find a thyristor of a...
Yes.. i believe they are the magnetic type. If you touch it with a screw driver you should feel it stick to it !
They are normally replaceable on most cars ?
Have you tried on here for more info http://carmechanics.proboards.com/
