Hi,
I’m looking for some aluminium to make some auto parts (manifolds, pulleys).
Rough starting sizes are:
150x100x15
150x100x50
110x110x40
Any recommendations

Which bit are you referring to ref speeds? Here is an extract from the Amazon listing for the same Die Grinder:
4 speed setting air regulator 8300-25000 RPM, Supplied with 1/8", 1/4" and 6mm collets
The Conical Norton Saint Gobain Aluminium Oxide bits on the Cromwell Site just state a maximum...
Hi,
I have have started to modify a BMC A Series Cylinder Head. The head is Cast Iron and I would like to confirm the correct cutting speeds for various tool bits.
I am using a Clarke Professional Air Die Grinder, which has 4 speeds from 8300RPM to 25000RPM @ max 90PSI.
I have a selection...
Hi everyone,
Looking for some clarity on the correct / optimum cutting speeds for Aluminium Oxide Mount Point Stones, like these ones for Cast Iron Cylinder heads.
The reason I ask is that I have been reading David Vizard's Cylinder Head Modification book, which is now rather old. In the first...
Just recharged it and when it’s up to pressure with the switch on, it leaks a steady low hiss, however if if polish the top too switch down (off) it starts to blow very loud?
Hi,
I used my compressor yesterday all day, no problems.
Just fired it up this morning and once it got up to pressure the shut off engaged but then all of a sudden (unless I couldn’t hear it before) air started to blow out off the back side of the electrical air shut off valve?
Help!!
it’s a...
Can't seem to find any info on what height the valve faces should sit above the roof of the chambers and ergo at what height the valve seats should be? I believe they should sit proud to aid air flow, but like I side I cannot find any technical information. Loads on how wide etc!!
This was sold to me for the grand sum of £15 postage as a scrap head for learning about head modding. It was completely rusted up when I received it and I also noticed a couple of the rocker stud threaded holes are cracked (which can be repaired). So it's probably not going on an engine :-)
My...
Sorry I thought posting them reduced the resolution, but the resolution is the same when you PM them, some of the text is not quite legible. 600 RPM looks to be the slowest on our Warco Hobby Bench Drill, I wonder if there is a way of slowing it down more?
I knew if anyone had made something you'd have been the one to do it :-) I remember reading some of your old threads on Valve Seat Cutters (and I think Flow Bench?).
Interestingly enlarging the Port Throats is something else I need to do also :-) I guess with slight different cutting tools...
Thanks for the link, fly cutters won't be any good as I don't have a Milling Drill, I am using a bench drill so need a cutter with a 9/32" pilot to slide down into the valve guide. This I am guess will give the tool (and the drill bearings in the drill) some extra support.
The idea is that the...
Thanks Gareth,
Wasn't going to hammer in the new guides, I'd rather press them in. Missed out on an Arbour press for £25 the other day so may look at making one like this one, although it seems a bit over engineered, maybe something simpler, just not sure how much pressure you'd need to press in...
Sorry, I missed many of these replies, with some great info.
Anyway, I made a tool yesterday :-)
It is made with a piece of scrap bar I had lying around (poss just mild steel), what would be the best way to harden it to avoid damaging it when hammering the guides out?
IIRC when at school we...
Hi,
I have a requirement to make a custom single point cutter holder to carry out some modifications on a cylinder head. The tool will be used to cut a recess around the outside of an intake / exhaust throat.
The largest throat will be around 31.7mm, the valves are 35.6mm so the tool would need...
I have a another thread on here regarding cutting valve seats.
What I am enquiring now is how to cut a 90 degree recess around the edge of an existing hole.
This would be similar to cutting a recess in a valve seat to fit a hardened valve seat?
The reason for wanting to do this is to be able to...
