Hi so in my resto shop we always prime and prep first then seam seal just before we paint most you can apply paint whilst it still wet some sealer will say if they dry you should use and adhersion promoter over them if they have curied
Everyone has there own ways, I’ve only been doing 20 odd years, 600 is ok but I find it can sometime leave sanding marks find you get a better finish with 800 each to there own though

i have the same lathe couple of planks and a pallet truck we used the ground was all flat, a couple of strong people cac lift and end with out to much problem
picked up some bar for the dies
it a bit big but price was right going to take some some work on the lathe will get some more closer to the finished size at some point
