If you could weld the non-weldable collar how would you do it? Would you fully weld around the top and bottom of the collar or would it just need a few beads holding it underneath to keep a cleaner finish on top, provided it's a tight fit on the post I suppose? Based on the fact that it's not...
I was thinking of making up some bollards and found these cast collars, but it says not suitable for welding? Any recommendations on how I would fix them to the steel tube they are designed to fit?

Just a basic question as I've never welded gates before. When welding 10 or 12mm square bar to a 40mm square box section what's the normal procedure. Spot weld front and back or all four sides of the square bar etc? Or maybe weld two sides of the square bar from one side of the gate, then the...
An Adams Gas 20ltr bottle of 5%CO2/Argon mix just cost me £165.60 (including VAT and a £80 surcharge for the bottle), from the local Adams dealer. I feel violated and will probably need to seek counselling.
Picked up a CEA Top 250 AC/DC tig but being new to tig the control panel looks confusing to say the least, anybody any pointers? I can't get a manual from CEA, too old apparently (the machine, not me ). Any help would be much appreciated.
My first guess is:-
Gas pre flow?

I know this is an old thread but I had the same requirements and in the end I bought a second hand stainless catering rack, cut it in half and welded some pieces in to make it the correct width...
My first idea wasn't as neat as I'd hoped so I bought a short piece of 40mm stainless tube and knocked up version two of the main height adjustment. I also put a thrust bearing in the top so the top collar moves around a bit smoother than pipe on pipe.
Made a start on the stand today. Decided to try and make use of as many bits and pieces of steel I've got lying about, and scavenged a short scaffold pole from a friend for the main upright.
I'm gonna build one of these:-
I've got the heating element etc. and the bottom frame/base is pretty straight forward, I just wondered if anyone had any good ideas for making it height adjustable? only needs a range of say 10" I'm thinking I need to find some heavy duty telescopic tube...
been pretty lucky myself, nothing that nasty.
The old man though that's a different story...
One time drilling a hole through the floor in work some cable got caught around the drill bit and simultaneously around his little finger and pulled the thing right off! surgeons managed to sew it...
Ha yeah, before I posted I did a fair bit of messing before realising that there were in fact two grub screws! but even with them both removed it was stuck fast.
Thanks to everyone for the sound advice. After checking if the belts were aligned properly and finding that there were no slots to move the engine across I ended up using a make shift drift and with a fair bit of tapping and turning managed to free the coupling off the engine side. There was a...
Ok So I do know this is a welding forum but there are some wise and clever people on here so I thought I post this.
Just picked up an atco cylinder mower. Got it home and it seemed fine for the first 10m them the blades stopped rotating but the drive still worked, then by the time I'd got...
I had a cheapy one and when I didn't use it for a while the batteries packed in and it stopped working, so for hobby use like me I recommend not putting it away in the dark when not in use but keeping the solar cell charging up the batteries.
should last you a while then.
I keep reading...
I've got a pair of gates with 50 x 50mm posts. The one side has been knocked over and I wondered about replacing it with something more substantial say 100 x 100mm. Now I'm not fussed on having one side 50mm and one 100mm so I wondered if I could slide a 100mm box section over the post still...
I think I've unluckily got one of the ones that's single phase 380/415v only so now on the hunt for a 240/415v transformer.
Seen a 20KVA 415V In 208/120V out (Primary Winding 415 Volts ( 3 Phase ) Delta Connection) transformer, could I use something like this in reverse?
