Having used it for a bit… what a proper bit of kit! Well worth the investment!
Bought a starter kit of roloc pads off eBay and some Dronco slit discs and now loads more options for working on things.
Probably the best tool I’ve had since the belt finger sander.
Really enjoyed this restoration. Great work!
How are your new workshop plans coming along? in a similar decision I removed the internal door from the family room to the garage. This gave better sound insulation from garage activities and helped manage dust etc. External man door is enough for me…
Aha! Good to see LHP again, it’s been a long time. Hope you and the family are well!
As it happens K16 PUG has been getting some attention recently as now is not a good time to be starting the sill replacement on the S1 Rallye.
Since I bought it not a huge amount of progress. Bought a house...
Great resto, loving the work so far.
I’d suggest getting yourself some fire blankets to cover up that expensive lift before you wreck it with grinder debris and weld splatter…
Started prepping the replacement boot floor panel.
Floor is solid, floor stiffeners less so. Glad no one tried to tow this car by the rear towing eye, there wasn't much holding it on - that's a common weak point in my experience.
I'll get the sides and back off tomorrow.
After years...
Thanks for the comment, I can put axle stands on the plates and sliding down the rails I can align to pick up the four mounting points on the sills. Makes it a bit of a height to lift the rear beam so it’s easier to have it back on axles stands on the deck to put that back on.
After posting last night I looked into the arch liners. You used to be able to get them for about £40 each. The last few that are selling are now going for over £100 each! Madness.
I need to do some bumper repairs on the Audi and some time ago I imported an Polyvance plastic welding kit from the US - they do a Euro-spec kit if you shop carefully you can get one sent over. I thought that before I have a go with some expensive German plastic, I'd have a go at some cheaper...
Appreciate pictures or it didn't happen is a thing, but I was too busy doing to take as many pictures as I should have and so will have to put them up after Easter when I get back in the garage, take things apart and take some retrospective pics.
Summary of progress is that the dollie is done...
Looks like the jack point is 1.6mm and the inner sill it’s joined to is likely to be 0.8mm. Going to be difficult to do. Best and safest is drop the fuel tank and then you could drill and plug weld it from the other side.
I used to do some work with a UK automotive Carbon specialist. They spent a long time researching clear coats due to the problem you have had. Some manufacturers were definitely more prone to it than others. In the end they subbed out all the finishing because at least that way they were getting...
Found a few hours over the weekend so cracked on.
Getting the plates laser cut was a massive time saver. Probably could have had the holes added in but didn't hame the measurements at the time and it didn't take too long to put them in on the pillar drill.
I may cap the ends where they act...
