I've had a closer look at it, and took this picture, I think looking at it that it hasn't been welded at the front, and just roughly tacked at the corners, so it caused vibrations and the crack because of that. I don't know if you can see but there is a nice straight bit of steel with no weld on...
I have some welding to do on 3mm mild steel square tubing. It's not a structural weld, but it does support some fairly hefty steel mudguards. I'll be using a Clark 165tn turbo with 2.4mm 6013 rods.
But not sure on what amperage to start with as a rough setting, I haven't welded in years and...
Yep, nothing below 1.5mm anyway, that's the reason I looked at this one because it starts at 35amps. so really I'll be welding from 1.5 to about 6mm maximum.
Did look at MIG,s but was taught on a stick welder, and they are easier on the pocket than a mig, plus I can use it out side, or with...
Cheers for the info W4yne, just got off the phone to a very nice man in the service department at Clarke and he told me pretty much the same. He even took the time to go through the various welders, and explained just what they were capable of. He also said that is I use a maximum of a 2.5mm...
Does any one know off hand if this welder can be used with a normal (UK) 13amp plug and socket? Just contacted a dealer and they said that it needs to be hard wired in like a cooker, but that sounds a bit extreme to me for a portable arc welder.
Cheers guys, that's answered my question beautifully. Should have said really, that I'm just a hobbiest, still I appreciate the info about Pro machines. I guess I'll be looking for a new arc machine, might even look at one of those new fangled invertors :)
I use an arc welder quite a lot, and find it handy especially when I want to build up welds on thicker plate. My question is, can you do the same techniques with a MIG as you can with an ARC?
Been offered one of these after my old buzzbox arc died in a puff of smoke.
It's got a euro torch on it, and looks ok , but apart from that I know nothing about it. Can't find the specs on the interweb (maybe I'm looking in the wrong place).
Anyway, does anyone have any info about the Sealey...
Cheers for the welcome and advice.
Going to have to practise a bit first any way, haven't picked up a welder in 6 months.
Also, what size hole would you recommend I drill for that size tube?
Hi yer, first time poster here.
Need to make a set of handlebars for my trike, they are provisionally going to be 1" tube 3.25mm wall thickness with 7/8" tube (3.25mm wall thickness) tube fitted into the end for throttle and switches.
My question is, would I be able to plug weld or slot...
