Working on narrowboats you see so much horrendous attempts at welding. The comment about silicone on the seams as crazy as it sounds is something we have seen a scary amount of over recent years. I feel since the canals got very popular during COVID alot of hobby diy'ers brought up the cheaper...
For general metal handling, grinding and welding for the price I find the Himalayan work gloves fairly decent. For the longer heavier welding and arc welding I've started using the tegera 17 gloves which I'm preferring to the gauntlets as more agile.
I have got various welding screens including speed glass and r-tech ones but the one I personally favour far more that any is the parweld true colour mask. I didn't expect much for the relatively low price but was greatly surprised and it is still my go to helmet.
I'm definitely not a fan of the...
I was recommended Parkers by a few local garages to me recently. I thought they were a trade only company but no they will deal with anyone and are good at finding hard to get parts.
Is this a item you need a number of them making? Have you looked up a local water jetting company?
We recently got asked to make a selection of different metal fittings for a lady that does upholstery for vintage Austin cars. We made a few samples for her which she was very happy with but they...
My mate run a coal boat on the canal. He got a batch of the eco logs for his customers to try after several people requested them. Safe to say they all reverted straight back to coal and he no longer bothers selling them.
Had to repair a vice at work before Christmas after it cracked it half after trying to undo a couple of rusty pipe fittings using 24" stilsons.
Not the prettiest of repairs but it's been put through its paces and holding up ok.
Used some 7018 rods. V-d out the crack and heated it up with a...
Where the sides of the boat are welded to the base there is normally about 1/2 inch of steel left overhanging to protect the welds from being worn away by constantly rubbing along the sides of the canal. As the boats are getting on a bit now that protective edge has worn down and in some cases...
After trying various rods over the last few years I've found the bohler rods to be my favourite. The phoenix bleu's are great but very pricey so I've been using the AWS rods and finding them a very good reliable rod. I had to weld 50ft of sacrificial chin on a narrowboat last week and it was...
Sorry for not replying sooner it's been crazy busy with work. Most places do use the C3 heads for boat paint removal.
We just find the C5 to be harder wearing which is probably why they recommend using the C3's as they want to sell more.
At the end of the day it depends how many boats you want...
Not so long ago my Jasic 250mig I use at work stopped working after a pop and cloud of smoke. I took it round to very helpful electrician round the corner. When we stripped it apart it also had rohr circuit boards fitted inside. It turned out to be a relay had burnt out which he was able to...
These are the other type of discs that are great for ripping of the hull blacking and in tighter spaces. Can't seem the find the machine on the website but found one on eBay to show what they look like and the replacement wheels are on there site.
Sorry I meant sander polisher. This is the one we use by draper. You can use a 9 inch grinder but can be heavy. Feels to twitchy on a 4 1/2 inch grinder. The teeth vary how long they last depending on how you treat them some people I know can kill 2 sets of teeth per boat strip. Myself Im still...
We actually brought just the cutter head with C5 cutters and have fitted it onto a variable speed linisher polisher as we find it more agile and better suited on the side of boats.
I can normally strip a full length narrowboat roof in 40mins...
