@m_c Ah brilliant, thank you. Something to go on for sure.
Its a 4 wire motor
Physically its exactly the same size as the other three Leadshine 57CM23 steppers. The Leadshines are also 4 wire.
Soooo... I think I'll try that one with the same settings as the leadshines and keep and eye on...
@Hood can I pick yer brain for a mo please? I have four steppers in total, three of them are Leadshine 57CM23 and then I have one that I can't find the model number of, so I dont know anything about it, other than its also Nema23 and should do the job just fine, I was gonna use it on my z-axis...
Ah no I appreciate the banter!
I have cable chain, gonna stick with that, ill stick up details of the components I have now in a while. I have some nice steppers and I have a guy here locally that sells openbuilds CNC components, I sold him a Gerber CNC that I bought ages ago and now he is...
you sound like a person with a clue!
I actually did manage to figure out the wiring on a set of servos that i had, but I sold them and went with steppers for this machine, in the hopes of just getting it done.
Steppers and the myplasm controller in the hopes that I can manage to figure out...
Ah cheers Mat. I nearly lost my job last september, mass redundancy, but I ended up keeping my job. Anyways, as soon as i got the news i started working on the machine again. Been at it since actually. Superb motivation.
Some more pics. I built a lot of adjustability into the rails, to cope...
Got somewhere with this. Spent about a month getting the gantry and gantry plates square. More time than that probably in fact.
The rails are test fitted for now. Im going to fill the tank with water and then use the machine torch to scoot along the top of the water and tell me where to set the...
Too good not to post. I found this picture on my phone of the piece of steel i used to make the front bumper.
Please see page 1 for more info on what that looks like. Happy christmas and new year to all you good folk.
Hello there bud, you sound like you have a clue, so can I ask you something, please
I'm thinking to buy Hiwin rails for this machine as a way of curing my problem, do you know anything about them, will HG20 rails suit do you think?
I rang a place today that sell Hiwin rails, I'm going to go...
So here is a wee video about the cooker, made by Adam from https://flatcapadventurers.com/
Adam does offoad tours of Northern Ireland and Donegal, and I was on one of those tours just recently.
Ah cheers. Yeah thats exactly where its going, up the mountain!
I was surprised that at one stage, when I stood back and looked at it - I realised that the thing actually makes sense. A few people tried to tell me thats a sheite idea, bad idea etc
But actually the thing approaches sense...
It weighs quite a lot. I have a 30x30mm solid bar arm for the tyre holder, and it is causing it to deform slighly when the weight is on it. Not enough to worry about from a safety standpoint.
But the result is that, the tyre doesnt just glide back into place anymore on the lip. Most of the...
bought an R20 tyre to fit on the new rim
Bought and fitted a small shutter padlock
Gonna give a few hours with the orbital sander tomorrow and then finish with sandpaper by hand, to get all those edges really neat.
After that then it's paint.

@Erie Fred
hiya Fred , I searched for the thread about the slat holders that you mentioned but could not find it, do you remember which sub-forum it was in please?
Cheers guys! Appreciate all the replies, love the idea about using the mig wire.
Yeah I am using industrial steel floor grates , as a sacrificial bed for the machine. I can get them flat using the water as a guide. So really im aligning everything with the water, which thankfully is the one...
This is my bridge too far. I've given up hope on finishing it, Ive been at it 7 years now. But, I'm gonna do more work on it anyway.
I gotta tell you it looks pretty cool in the garage. But, when I welded the floor in, the beams warped, and now I cant rely on the straighness of the beams...
Next task is a sheild for the gas cylinder. A pretty serious sheild.
Then I'm going to my dads to get him to look over it and give me an 'okay', before I light it.
With that out of the way, ill facricate the attchment points for the burner and the grill
