Does anyone know a source for a set of metric transfer punches that aren't Silverline? I keep seeing bad reviews (bent, wrong size, off-centre points etc).
Thanks,
Anthony
A trip to Argos turned up a set of kitchen scales that reads up to 10kg, rather than the usual 5kg. I need to move the washers on the base board which align the scale feet in the right place, but it works ok, breaking the kitkat at between 6 and 7kg :)
I think that would be downfall to having a scale. I think I'd get roasted for assuming stress was proportional to strain in a chocolate bar :ashamed: It was a wonderfully simple idea though and not something I'd come close to thinking of:hug:
I also like the idea of using water in a graduated...
Hi guys
I must admit, I've only just seen the last few replies, as I scurried off and started work on something using my existing kitchen scales. I gave up on the peak hold idea, thinking I'd just read off the numbers as they rose:
It works well enough, but I under estimated the...
Ah, yes. I've seen those. Digital is more flash, but mechanical would be KISS.
I've got some mini digital scales, but they don't peak hold and don't have a USB connection. Scales would be a bit more awkward.
A pan of known weights would certainly work. I'll keep that as plan B - I'm hoping...
Once again I find myself turning to the great array of esoteric knowledge housed on this fine forum :)
My apologies for bizarre thread title, but I promise it will become clear.
I've been tasked to produce a "game" that's remotely engineering-related. The idea is to guess the strength of...
Thanks :)
Yes, it is a cylinder for a PCP air rifle (AirArms S200). Unfortunately I've tried all the airgun suppliers and the part is NLA. They changed to different fittings on later guns. There is a conversion kit available, but I'm loathe to pay ~£50 for it if a similar valve is available...
Hi guys,
I'm hoping to draw on the collective esoteric wisdom on here to try and source a replacement part.
It's a quick-release fill valve (one way), working pressure 200 bar of air.
Is this a common thing from the world of hydraulics or high-pressure gases?
I can do without the...
Now there's an idea. In it's current position I can just get a thin-walled 13mm socket onto the bolt head.
The internet says the OD of an M8 cap screw is 13mm, gaining me 2mm of room.
The OE bolt in that hole is a 10mm hex flanged screw. Assuming 2mm for the socket (and trimming the flange...
Ah, I've just found a (blurry) photo of the tensioner as it's currently fitted:
I think I could increase the radius by 4mm without getting the belt too close to the bracket for the tensioning spring.
I suppose it didn't have to be...
I was measuring the height of some pistons at TDC relative to the block face.
The gauge reliably reads zero at full extension.
I've not owned one before, but used a few and all those could be twiddled to zero them.
Actually, I just re-read the first paragraph of what I just posted and it no longer makes sense.
So I've just sat on the floor with some string and with one end tied off, the other over a fixed pulley and attached to a weight (to maintain tension), depressing the span (like the tensioner...
Drains, I think you've cracked it there. The shallower the belt angle, the greater the strain in the belt. It must follow that for a given load pushing the tensioner into the belt, the greater strain must be at the expense of distance moved.
So, my 2mm of belt slack is going to need a...
Hi,
No worries, it's a custom build with a mish-mash of different components that has resulted in the block, pistons and head being skimmed to give me the CR and squish clearance I want.
As it stands, I have about 2mm reserve travel in the tensioner. I'd like to take another 1mm off the...
Hi,
I'm hoping someone here can help me here because I can't quite figure it out.
With a tensioner pulley between two static pulleys, how much slack is removed from the belt for each unit movement of the tensioner?
The specific application is a cambelt tensioner on an engine. I need to...
Nothing! The knurled ally bezel just spins around on its own for fun :D
Should the dial face also turn on all gauges? I'm wondering if some you can rotate to zero and some you can't?
