For an electrician, my list of tools would change quite a bit, a Fluke 87-V would be right near the top of the list, closely followed by buckets...
We *want* all the tools, rarely do we have the money to buy, the space to put and the time to use such things. :D
I'd put chipboard/OSB on top of the rafters for storage and leave it at that, it doesn't need to look good underneath.

VFDs have a lot of protection inside, it won't get damaged but it might detect it's not connected to a motor, shut off and display an error code.
Beat me to it, the inverter might even have DC injection braking so the emergency stop can be set up to stop the spindle as quick as possible,...
I'd leave the groove, you'll probably get some distortion welding it up, then it needs straightening, more trouble than it's worth IMO.
Little pink and black rubbery thing called a Zebra strip. Don't pull it off, they're very hard to line back up, ask me how I know. :ashamed:
