You want TIG gauntlets for welding with TIG; much closer fit and you get increased dexterity.
i just use normal work gloves for tig welding these days, but i think that’s because my hands are used to being scorched nowadays!
ah yeah, i forgot about arc frequency!
idk, i think noobs are more likely to melt through because of the tendency to “chase” when it starts to sink, whereas some pulsing might help.
good man!
and yes, some fair results there for an hour or so’s practice. you must have a reasonably good teacher!
post-flow on aluminium for this type of thing is fairly minimal, you just want a slope down to avoid cratering the last dab.
if you move onto stainless then you need post-flow of...
the one that only goes to 60% is your AC balance - it determines whether you’re welding onto or welding into the aluminium (very simplistic).
don’t go rushing to weld wheels. i appreciate you’re keen, but wheels are for cars and cars routinely go 70mph+.
you do not want to be the guy...
First things first- CLEAN THE BLOODY METAL!!!
set your AC balance to around 45-55%; top amps at ~145 and low amps at ~65.
set pulse at about 2.5Hz, pre flow 0.5, post flow 0.5.
set your gas flow on the peashooter to around 10-12LPM, use a 2.4mm tungsten and a 2.4mm rod.
keep your stick out...
Assuming you understand the ones down the left side, your middle buttons (L, knob, R) should take you through your pulse settings:
Along the lines of (left to right)
pre flow (gas before arc)
start amps (so you can start high for heat and then work at lower amps, eg.)
slope up (how long for...
should have said - i’ve worked for a few places that have plant hire in the name round our way; might have been able to sort out a hire quicker than that!
Cracking effort!
definitely agree, mild steel can be an absolute ‘mare to TIG compared to stainless - although it took me long enough to get the knack of stainless compared to aluminium!
pop along to your nearest welding supplies shop and ask for a kg of mild steel filler. 80% of these shops will have fellas like me and you who don’t quite go through 60kg/month and will quite happily parse off a rough guesstimate of 1kg for you to take away.
Good luck getting a Jasic just now unless it’s on the shelf in front of you.
local supplier of Jasic has heard on the grapevine that there’s a big backlog of machines - he’s certainly not managed to get any in recently, and Wilkinson Star have spaffed a lot of money to try and expedite orders..!!
Sounds like Tim nicebutdim can go and f**k himself.
Tesco don’t hold your shopping for you until you decide you like the price; they just sell until they run out of stock: same as you, except your stock was 1.
folk like that do my head in, and i’d have no hesitation in responding to Tim the...
i’m sure i saw a video of Jody from wt&t showing it which is how i’m aware - from what i gather it gives insanely good penetration; but the weld isn’t as nice looking. Iirc his explanation is that it’s used for heavy parts that need solid penetration profile and then usually an AC&Argon run over...
