I can see both your points, I do every now and then use my lathe professionally and in the past have run into problems with china tools (boring bars/parting blades) costing me time/money, offcourse I'm still very inexperienced so it might've been user error too.
I'll order a couple of tool...
The holders i'm after are for the following inserts:
- DNMG 150608
- TCMT 16T308
- DNMP 150604
- SNMG 120408
- CPMT 060204
- CPGT 09T304
Have full boxes of these insert bought cheap locally, all good brands, iscar, seco, kennametal, sandvik,...
Also have some boxes of...
Been having good luck finding quality brand inserts second hand lately, however the tool holders rarely pop up second hand. Any opinions on aliexpress,... tool holders, are they worth bothering with or should i hold out and wait until a quality brand pops up locally for sale?
'Dried' a roll of moist pla in an electric oven at 70° for a couple of hours, worked ok. Did put an external thermocouple in past the seal to check the temp, didn't trust the accuracy of the internal thermostat.
Correct, everything went fine when putting in another gear after the gear where I had the chatter issue, didn't change a thing, even the insert was the same.
The part I was doing when I had the power outage went without problems, after changing the insert offcourse .
It was the only picture of the setup i had on my phone, the tip of the insert was broken off, the power went out during a cut and the tip broke off when the lathe stopped. When i had the chatter issue i had a good insert.
I've suspected this too, all the others went flawless, even the 2 troublesome ones went flawless when i took the 'deeper' 3mm (diameter) cuts, only when i took the finishing pass of 1mm (diameter) deep that i ran into the chatter issue. Especially since when i took another gear and bored it out...
The thing is, the setup worked perfectly for 28 of the 30 holes, I find it very weird that on 2 of them it chattered.
Only drilled to 33mm because I don't have a larger drill , also buying a quality reamer that size would be too expensive for this job, and it's good practice for me...
Yet another novice question
Doing a boring operation, have to enlarge drilled holes from 33mm to either 50mm in C45 unhardened steel. My method was going up to 49mm in 3mm steps from the 33mm, measuring at 49mm and then doing the final 1mm to get a nice finish. This went ok for about...
Plan of the carriage drive system below, looks like part 3/42 might be a spring loaded gear that disengages when there is too much torque on the shaft.
3/14 is the half nut shaft, 3/17 is the carriage drive shaft.
The manual states 'A safety mechanism on the feed drive disengages in case of overload both the main and the crossfeed carriage', unclear if this is meant only in case of 'cockup' or to be used regularly.
I'll give it a try as suggested here by hand and see what happens.
Novice question here, how do you use a carriage stop, do you actually let it autofeed into the stop and rely on the 'clutch' system in the carriage feed, or do you stop it before it touches and handfeed it into the stop?
I've been stopping before and hand feeding it in, but you can see a...
No didn't clock it, lined up the block with a large countersink bit on an existing hole in a spur gear, the holes don't need to be precise, they still need to be bored out to final spec.
Spur gears are for slow moving hydraulic motors in machinery.
Picture I took of a colleague of mine haggling over the price of a pair of custom made GoodYear special flip flops in a local market, Port Harcourt, Nigeria in 2006. When we wanted to go into town an armed security guard with a big FAL machine gun had to accompany us, only problem was he was...
