Thanks everyone. I ordered the battery and tool kit from iphonefixuk. It 'felt' like less of a chance than a random amazon or ebay purchase and maybe less chance of coming from the chinese junk pile (maybe the slightly less junk chinese pile instead!)
Haha - the phone is a handme down and i hate it, so if i break it it will force me to get one I like, if I don't I will have a functional phone.

When my aunt had that problem she just jammed the wires of whatever extra appliances she wanted to use into the socket and then slammed a plug from something else in on top to make sure the connection was good!
This could be an issue? Genuine ended up about £70 for both sets of seals IIRC when I last priced them up. Seemed like a real rip off but I didn't have to worry about the quality of the parts and without an obvious Bosch or equivalent alternative to genuine I didn't want to chance other...
