Well, I know you're stubborn, and you don't like selling vehicles... ;-)
(And don't listen to me, or you'll end up buying more to fix or break)
If you want to ride, you could sell it for (probably) enough cash to buy, e.g, a reliable boring10 year old Honda CBR125 that...
True, would be the best plan but I think Julian is attached to it.
Ebay shows the state of the market, as usual: most are restored, not many rough but complete bikes about, so they'll be all over it.
In fact, the 'not run for 20 years' might add value here... keep the cobwebs and dust! I think...
Yes. The pilot jet needs to come out to clean it properly. If not, it's unlikely it will idle or be fuelled correctly, up to 1/8th throttle.
There is usually a specified number of turns open from fully closed, e.g. 2.5
The main jet is fixed, the needle also has a stock position on the grooves...
A third small 1980s Honda, in as many months. A C70
The previous two were found on Marketplace and Ebay for big wads of £20 notes.
This 'dog rough' one came free, from the local River: Cur-Ching!
Gonna need more than a T-Cut. I think some P40 may also be needed?
It still looks better than...
I would like to try it. Can you recommend a brand and supplier, Hugh?
What's your preferred wire diameter - is 0.8 prone to nests?
Is a Teflon liner 'essential' ?
Just found this page, so Teflon it is. https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/brazing.htm
Plus: 'MIG braze welding voltages...
One of our electronics gurus pointed me to good replacement SCRs, now ordered.
In the meantime, I put the board back and tried it out. Took a few minutes to dial in but welded well, until the gas ran out.
My friend Ian, @Redsailor, who resides in your neck of the woods has a VW Crafter with seemingly intractable injector / fuelling problems that his garage can't solve.
Nor can he. And he's a clever chap - he built his own MIG welder 50 years ago.
Was the liner thing a red herring? I'll never know...
Whilst re-forming the capacitor, after five minutes I noticed the motor speed slowly creeping up, then faster until it was maxed out.
Thereafter, the wfs was pretty random, so looks like SCR failure. The one on the right is noticeably darker...
Fixed the liner today.
Usually, I use curtain wire but I saw this wasn't going to work, as the liner retaining nut has no ferrule to grip and align the liner.
It would need drilling out / counter-boring to 4 mm to work.
Luckily a Euro liner abuts up perfectly, no nut is required.
Same here. I can't ride small stuff like this that I had when I was a teenager.
Prices are only heading one way. And they fit into an MPV, so I've bought a few old bikes the last few months... just for fun.
If you don't need the cash and have the space, then keep it for a while.
If we had...
