There was a chap in Newbury used to bring them across quite regularly to do up and sell I think. They make really nice house-boats :being twice the width of a narrow-boat boat but you are limited to where you can go. Many of the canals have narrow locks.

Blasting is the way to go. The blaster I use paints it at well. It all comes back in fetching shade of pink 2k primer.
Those Chinese bast pots that you buy work acceptably well but it does make a huge mess: blasting at home; it is almost worth paying someone else for that alone.
