Hoping some of the Collective in the motor trade can help/comment on the following.
My son had a coming-together with a deer in his Ford Focus and appears to have got off lightly - at least more lightly than said deer. He's sent pics of the damage to the front of the car and, being strapped for cash, is considering attempting a D-I-Y repair rather than go through his insurance which has a £450 policy excess . [And yes, he's aware that ALL accidents ought to be reported...]
He's been quoted c. £635 for a repair and says he's seen replacement bumpers at £235[ish], but would then be left having to fit/spray/blend it in. He's not at all practical and I can see it going sadly wrong, even with Google on his side......
The alternative would be to drill at the end of the crack to stabilise it, then use plastic fillers to 'glue' it back together. My concern, bearing in mind that I'm only going by the pics, is that the panel gap at the offside by the h/light is different from the nearside and I'd be concerned that the bumper support has been twisted/damaged. I'm assuming the black trim panel onto which the plate if fixed is a separate part which will also need replacing [think, broken clips etc].
Thoughts?
